Hmmm,Don't know where you live, if you go to RMAF I'll be there Friday for sure. I'll leave a card at Paul's room (PS audio). I gotta meet ya, let's hang out. I'm really curious what you're trying to get to - bring your buds! We can go listen to l...
Cannot find perfect sound
Here I am, 'OM' coming from speakers... I though of an experiment for you:Take those speakers you're disappointed with and put them outside somewhere you can - along with some version of your gear you can move. Don't get too wound up about the tec...
Please help me figure out what I need to do this. My head spins with tech talk..
Go with a DAC, the spinning stuff is probably what caused the 'died' as that's a mechanical contraption. Rip or get bits as source material - that's the source future anyway. So many excellent DACs under a couple of grand. Easy to decide. Go simple...
Cannot find perfect sound
It's so funny you guys are all trying to 'fix' this guy...So there's no perfect sound - even the real thing is not 'perfect' I know I face the pitfalls of live music ALL THE TIME even purely acoustic. So audio is a mirror to the soul - what are you...
Ps Audio BHK preamp Vs ARC best preamps
Mario, we are not too far away from Paul's shop here in Colorado and we plan to drop in sometime soon anyway. What's your time frame? We can try the actual test with an without the pre and report findings back... His listening room with the IRS Vs...
Getting into tubes
We just helped a customer retube a Cary SLI-80, so we have to dig deep into the amp's design. Most of our experience with Cary before this amp was preamps. Mark at tech support was super insightful. The amp is amazingly well designed and versatile...
Looking for vintage Quad ESL's - or my wife thinks a "shrink" becase she says I'm crazy!
Good for you Mark, put your heart first! Love is a beautiful thing, right up there with passion. It's why we're here. Shrinks need the straight jackets they created, meanwhile we'll keep that secret smile on our faces!;-)
Once you go 300b it’s hard to go back?
Folks must realize most class 'D' amps are single ended amps as the analog signal is 'formed' across an inductor/capacitor pair just like a triode plate/cathode. All the gobbly-gook ahead of the passive pair is ultrasonic basically. No wonder clas...
Does a tube need the break-in hours?
We've sold vintage tubes on 'bay for a decade (tekdesinc) and also are designing high-end tube gear. There's 4 categories to this question:1. raw new modern small signal tubes: definitely breakin for 100-200 hours depending on brand. If cryo'd hal...

Can't we all just get along?

Michael Fremer's system
Oooops ... Paul McGowan - sorry Paul.
Michael Fremer's system
I remember meeting Michael in one of the notorious RMAF elevators - and as a Coloradoan, well he felt a bit = well you know... from back there. (anybody who knows Pail McGowan knows a typical colorado audio dude).BUT, you gotta admit, Michael is a...
Switching to solid state amp?
Bob, if you're a real tube guy (sounds like it): Class 'A' (lots of heat also) or Hypex nCORE-loaded Class D (Bel Canto, etc) for next to zero heat.Else, well you'll be missing that 'something'... BUT conventional A-B SS like Constellation is gett...
How could 100 Watt class a has more head room than a 300 Watt amp Class AB
'Headroom' can have a lot of meanings in the audio world...At system-level you may think extra db from the average listening level the system can play before non-linearity/distortion, for example. This does involve the amplifier, but all other ele...
