What speakers work best with electronic music?
I also listen to a lot of electronic music and would recommend augmenting whichever speakers you end up purchasing with a high quality sub, possibly even two if your listening space is large. This generally allows the low frequency foundation of e...
Putting together first system... clueless.
I second the Tekton Lore recommendation. I've owned both the Lore and the Zu Omen, and can say that the Lore was far better in every way in my system. The lower cost M-Lore might also be a good option depending on the size of your room. I'd give E...
Cartridge for punk, rock, emo, indie?
For punk and emo, I find safety pins work really well. There just seems to be a mysterious synergy with the music. Perhaps it's because they're able to dig really deep into the record grooves to extract every last bit of tortured emotion...;o)
Goodtube integrated
I'd add the Manley Stingray (used) to your list
Ready to upgrade from the Jolida JD1501
I recently purchased the new 100wpc Rogue Sphinx integrated and have been very impressed so far. Detailed, excellent bass control, and a lovely midrange due to the tubed preamp section (I'm assuming). Also comes with a quality phono stage, an opti...
Does anyone know the news of Kharma Amplifiers
Another poster (Betaluo76) asked almost the exact same question. It's sheer coincidence I'm sure, but you wouldn't be related would you...
Established Artists: Hidden Gems/Classic Rock
Neil Young-On the Beach...everyone was expecting another Harvest. But what they got was a grungy, lo-fi, cynical album with songs inspired by Charles Manson and the evil oil industry. Nobody bought it and it actually went out of print for many yea...
Portal Audio Panache or Marantz PM8004
I've owned the Panache and have listened to the Marantz. Soundwise, they are both excellent with the Portal a bit warmer sounding while the Marantz a bit more neutral. I'd give the edge on detail to the Marantz. The real difference IMO is in the f...
Speakers for newbie
Just because your amp is rated at 8 ohms does not necessarily mean it can't drive a 6 ohm or even a 4 ohm speaker safely--particularly if you're not planning to crank it up to maximum volume. It might be worth contacting Marantz (or a good dealer)...
Speakers for newbie
I've always been a fan of Totem speakers and would recommend checking out their options. In particular, a pair of Arros would make excellent fronts which you could later combine with a set of Dreamcatchers or Mites and a Storm sub to make a full 5...

How big is your listening room and will you be using the speakers with a subwoofer?
NOLA, Fritz, or used Totem Hawk - Want Drama
I owned the Hawks for many years and experienced some transporting and sublime moments listening to music through them. You are correct, however, that the Cairn probably won't cut it. They really only came alive for me when I was driving them with...

Totem forest And Mass loading
I agree with Rockn that Totems sound best with a good 150WPC+ high-current solid state amp which is able to control the bass and expand the sound stage. When I owned the Forest, I got the best results using a solid state amp and a tube preamp. For...
