cd player with xlr outputs
I find that, with exactly the same cable brand and model number, the XLR always sounds slightly better. My guess is that the things the cable introduces is just cancelled out.
Am i missing some good and lifelike speakers ?tks
All the above are great things to try.Don't rule out the Von Schweikirt line; those speakers are quite passinate. Frieds are another great, great speaker. If you love ribbons, as I do, the Red Rose Classic has a sound that is to die for. Smooooth, d...
anyone hear the levinson 436's or 432 yet
I got to try a Bryston 4BSST against one at the store. Same speakers, preamp, source and cable (which may,or may not, be the best way to hear a Bryston). I was amazed that the SST was able to keep up quite handily to the Levinson. The Levinson (as...
What bugs you most about sound quality?
Compression, definately. Watching most of my disks on a scope was pretty annoying; the average dynamic range was still less than a phono or tape could hold! Many pop disks have no more than 20db of dynamic range!!I grant that this makes sense on po...
Anyone's opinion about VTL amps?
The ones I heard (the 350 watt model at the time) struck me as powerful and a tad grainy. But,to be fair, the grain was in comparison to the mega-buck Levinson system in the other room. What I do remember is that my head was picking out the flaws ...
New Spectral SDR-4000
I can't wait to hear it...then again it costs more than a fine used car.
ROGUE "Zues" Power amplifer???? Anyone???
The bass on the Zeus, when being fed to the Von Schwiekirt VR4 was stunning. Large Chineese drums will make you wet yourself if you are not expecting it (then again, maybe its an age thing....). I know the sound of skin drums (my wife used to drag...

The Klipch that really blows my...er...horn...is the Corner Horn. I remember a friend playing the 1812 overature on them. When it got to the cannon part I actually saw the shock-wave ripple down the wall! Wild!!The didn't sound bad on music either...

Has anyone heard Ohm Acoustics 300 MK-2
I tried a pair of them. Powerful, coherent bass. Not the tightest bass on the planet though but POWERFUL. Great coherence between bass and midrange. Huge soundstage and wide sweet-spot. The model I had came with the metal-dome tweeter. Hated that ...

Top Audio Designers Of All Time?
Chris Russel and Stuart Taylor of Bryston can be added to the list. While not having the impact of, say, a Pass or Curl, they continue to plug along at a constant level of excellence. And they only seem to be getting better! Also a vote for the can...

Is solid state on the brink of extinction?
I have a sample of each type amp in my home;Digital (Spectron Musician II), SS linear Bryston 4BSST, and OTL tube (Atma-Sphere M60 Mk II). After spending weeks optimising the cable/speaker/room/sub for each amp here are the standings:#1)Atma-Spher...
