I checked both of my pairs last night. The AIIs I have are #1031 & #1032. The AIII's are #12815 & #12816. I agree with Carlos' comment on the crossover caps. I plan to freshen up mine, I just haven't focused on it yet. (be careful when/if ...
How does smoke effect speakers?
Even though I'm not a smoker, I've found that cigarette smoke makes my speakers sound sort of dry & harsh, while cigar smoke makes them sound somewhat coarse, but in an interesting, earthy way. The best smoke, smoke that SERIUOSLY improves bot...

You have something special. You won't need the Vandys any longer. I have two pairs of Type A's, one similar to yours & one pair of AIII's. I'll have to recheck my serial numbers on mine...I think they are in the 1200's. Right around this time ...
Floorstanders designed to be against the wall?
I'll second the suggestion on the Snell Type A's. While they can be flat against the wall, mine sound best about 16-18 inches off the wall. If you want to fill a large space, they can do it with an amazing midrange, big & refined bass, imaging...

abuck...yah..I have some of those. They get good reviews in various places on the web & they are good. Whether they are better than the others I mentioned depends on how each sounds in your system. Every setup is unique in many respects.

12AT7 tube
Ain't it always the way...I stopped looking once I got the three in the mail last week. I just check the auction. $138/pr is a reasonably rightous price for these tubes. Certainly higher than the 2 mica version. but no surprise I guess. The other ...

Glory,Sorry to say they are just the 2 micas...I've been chasing(trying to obtain via ebay, various sellers) the current 4 blues I have for a good 18 months...haven't seen a 3 mica yet.All of mine (two separate purchases) came out of Germany.
12AT7 tube
The Valvo 6201 blue label would be one to go after. I just installed a pair last night in a preamp & took out a pair of bugle boys. All I can say is WOW. The Valvo blues have the midrange sweetness of amperex tubes, but in a tighter-cleaner fo...
