New Vinyl Nirvana website is up...vintage Thorens and AR turntable enthusiasts
Looks great, Dave! Beautiful ‘tables.
What MC cart would you use with this setup?
To get more out of any cartridge (proper VTA is important with 2M Black among others) I would recommend this for your Rega: http://www.michell-engineering.co.uk/tonearms/new-rega-3-point-vta-adjuster/
High End is Dead?
Yes, def dead. I’m not sure if it’s because it “sucks”, or because it’s “snake oil”...
Missing the Old Days
I've owned two pairs of Tyler Acoustics' speakers. I still own a pair of two way floorstanders. A manufacturer that sells direct is not so rare these days. Ty is one of the many good guys in audio.
Question for tube aficionados
I have some experience with the 12AX7 from Psvane. I would definitely give them the nod over all current production tubes that I've tried, except the Gold Lion. The GL gets the nod for tighter, more tuneful bass.I would not put either brand ahead ...
I'd like to hear recommendations for Turntables under $5,000
The VPI turntables/ tonearm are definitely more of a tweakers setup. There is good support at the factory level, and a forum community that can be quite helpful. I owned a Aries Scout and then Scout II, and there was a lot to like about those TTs....
Am I dreaming?
Overall, the McIntosh integrated amps and receivers will give you good sound. The built in DACs and headphone jacks are quite good, but I find the phono stage to be strictly OK. As previously stated, be sure to buy one with the autoformers if you ...
Mid-fi integrated tube amp advice
A couple other hybrids to consider would be Rogue Audio Sphinx and Croft Phono Integrated - pre-owned, well within your budget.
Who is the best singer of the world ?
Impossible to choose the “best”, but one of my faves is Gregg Allman.
Brand new to vinyl: Help!
A Atma-Sphere phono stage would be soooo tempting...
Soooooooo many possibilities...!
I’ve never owned the Steelhead, but my Jumbo Shrimp and Chinook were very quiet - no humming noise. I used them with both shielded and unshielded ICs.
Soooooooo many possibilities...!
@audioglow the MP-3 is balanced, very well built, quiet and does most everything well. I paired it first with a BAT VK250SE with very nice results, but when paired with an ARC VT-100mkII the music was simply amazing and engaging. The soundstage wa...
Soooooooo many possibilities...!
+1 on Manley Jumbo Shrimp/Chinook comboI recently sold my C47... the DAC was very good sounding, but the phono stage was merely ok.  The one piece of audio gear that I wish I’d never sold is the Atma-Sphere MP-3, and I would recommend an audition....
Question for tube aficionados
The Joe's Tube Lore posting is from 1999 from the looks of it, but I didn't read down through the pages. You'd be hard pressed to find much for $5 these days! The 12**7 tubes last quite a long time, so it's well worth it to step up to something rea...
Question for tube aficionados
I have always gotten solid advice and feedback from Brent Jesse, Andy at Vintage Tube Services, and Upscale Audio. I’ve purchased from all three over the past 20 years, and have not gotten a bad tube from any of the three. I would start by replaci...
