Audio Research VS 115 bias Adjustments
Bifwynne,I'm on the phone with ARC 2-3 times a week lol. Remember the KT-120 is a new tube so as info. becomes available it will be disseminated. If I hear anything, I will let you know. Happy New Year to you as well. geek
Audio Research VS 115 bias Adjustments
First off, KT-120's are not available yet through ARC for re-tubing. They are only available for new production. Hopefully this will change in the next few months. If you are concerned about some of your output tubes getting up into the 70mV range...
Audio Research LS2B: hissing noise from a channel
Sounds to me like it could of been a constant current source/ Fet in that channel.
Audio Research SP-8 or Quicksilver Full Function ?
If my memory serves me the SP-11 is a hybrid preamp where as the SP-8 is very much an all tube preamp except for some transistor constant current sources and filament voltage regulator. The series the SP-8 comes from include the SP-6 and the SP-10...
ARC vt100mkiii Questions?
Leonard is no longer at Audio Research. If the bass is a bit lacking, I would suggest your output tubes need to be replaced. I always tell customers if your buying a used tube amp don't expect the seller to re-tube it. My guess is your output tube...
Audio Research SP-8 or Quicksilver Full Function ?
The SP-8 is actually an improved SP-6. In fact the final revision of the SP-6E1 is almost identical to the SP-8. I think the SP-8 sounds a little less lumpy in the bass. Also the SP-8 has a tube rectifier in the power supply which can be more gent...
Buy tubes from Audio Research or not
The reason you blew a resistor is because an output tube arced. When this happens the others output tubes are not far behind. Therefore, it's to your advantage to replace all the output tubes since they all have the same amount of hours on them.
Buy tubes from Audio Research or not
I am referring to output tubes onlyG
ARC Ref-300 or 600 or 210: Which sounds best ?
Ref-210. Awesome dynamic slam due to the 6550 drivers. Relatively simple circuit too. Great amp.G
Buy tubes from Audio Research or not
The advantage to buying ARC tubes include the 90day warranty, the fact that they have been burned in at voltage for 24hrs. so bias drifting is minimized, and are matched to the amp you need them for i.e. the biasing window of adjustment is optimiz...
Audio Research amps - balanced & non
...And the one big disadvantage of a transformer is phase shift and frequency roll off at the extremes. If the transformer is feeding a poorly designed wide bandwidth circuit then in fact the transformer might actually improve the sound over all. ...
Audio Research amps - balanced & non
Twenty seven years ago I was, with my business partner, designing a head amp. At that time I had a meeting with a man named Dene Jensen at his facility. I spoke with him for about an hour. He was the first person to actually design a computer prog...
Audio Research amps - balanced & non
Can't answer that as question as I don't know other manufacturers circuit topology. Even with an XLR/RCA converteryou don't have the inverting half of the balanced input so unless the input circuit can compensate for that, your not going to get pr...
Moving Up the ARC Chain: Some Observations
Enjoyed your remarks. It amazes me that there are people out there that buy expensive audio equipment without first getting information about the company they just purchased it from. I have countless stories of audiophiles spending ungodly amounts...
Audio Research amps - balanced & non
Martykl you are correct! When driving an ARC balanced amp with the SP-10 preamp you will find that you are unable to get symmetrical clipping out of the VT-130. At about half the rated output of the amp, one half of the waveform will indeed softly...
