cartridge plays the radio
Kbo, even if you have the double shielded version, I don't consider that enough shielding for a phono signal. It's just 2 wires coiled around the + conductor rather than 1. You really need 100% shielding here.
D&D 's
Sadly, the original recording was not that great sounding. I remember noting this when that record was new and it didn't stand up to others in my collection at the time. Not sure anything better can be done with it even now.
sound at the record store
You guys still have Record Stores?... Don't complain.
Audio room floor question
What about tile? Any soft surface, like floating wood flooring cannot be improved upon or "tuned" once installed. Yes, tile is hard, but is a good, solid, surface that can be "tuned" with area rugs to your liking. Nothing wrong with the raw staine...
Best rock bass player
Phil Lesh (on a good day), though his idiosyncratic style really is different from the "classic" Rock Bass player.
Classical, Spanish & South American Guitar Jewels
Andre Segovia: Spanish encores. Awesome playing (of course)and sound. Not sure about the cd if any, but the LP is simply amazing. Just him, solo. My guitar reference for cable or component evaluation. Check it out, nobody wouldn't love this one.
Driving Magnepan 1.7
That Stingray uses the EL84 tube. They can make the larger, more powerful tubes sound sluggish and plodding by comparison. Don't know how they accomplish this. It's "the little tube that could". I used them with MG 111A's years ago, no problem. No...
What's the sonic advantage of bi-wiring
It's not always better. I don't know if it is my speakers, my amps, or the speaker/amp interface, but, my system sounds better not bi wired. It is better though using a double run of the same cables.
cleaning tube sockets
Deoxit works, and I use it with those tiny brushes from the drug store that are meant to clean dental work. There are various sizes and shapes. Good idea to clean up afterwards with Q tips so no residue migrates around the circuitry. You need to g...
Everything about this is wrong...
Crazy, I can't picture how the platter moves. How does this operate and how is it "timed" to follow the grooves?
Everything about this is wrong...
Being confused, I had to google this to find a picture. Now I remember seeing one in a HiFi store in the 70's. Not set up, just in the window for wow appeal. Very cool, we thought. 57's, I'm still confused, how does the "arm" travel? And those puc...
Moving from CD to analog
Been into analog since that was all we had. Do yourself a favor. If you really want to come to this dark side, don't waste your time on any of those entry level tables unless you buy used. Don't waste your money on any of those stratospherically p...
+1 Radio Shack
Just for our own curiosity, tell us exactly what it was that the "Wizzard" did. Lucky you, no Electronics Wizzard at my R. Shack. Just the Phone Wizzard.
Interconnects Roller Coaster Ride
Well, maybe it could be the wires. I am going through a similar thing right now. My case is a bit different though. I installed a new interconnect from which I had no idea what to expect. Right out of the box, no break-in and the sound was delight...
Want To Hear How Amazing Computer Audio Can Be?
The chain of hook ups and components needed to get there always just sounds ridiculous. I don't even know what those things are, or what they do. Why can't I just plug the computer into the old school HiFi. I guess I can understand that a DAC migh...
