Bonnie Raitt and Lyle Lovett
I saw them together at Great Woods in MA way back in '92. I was already a fan of both, but many/most of the others there had heard little of Lyle. He converted everyone into fans before the end of the show. The two actually pair up very well, Bonn...
Is KEF no longer relevant?
I almost bought a demo pair of 104/2's in '92. I took em home for the weekend. Simply beautiful sounding speakers. I should have bought them, I would probably still have them now. In an effort to save some cash, I bought a new pair of Q50's instea...
Monitors secure on stands
I attach my Europas to the Osiris stands with blu-tack. You can actually grab the top of the speaker and the whole speaker/stand combo tips. Very secure. Of course with the Europas I dont have to worry about veneer!Valinar, look for the yellow stu...
Is there a "notify" feature on Audiogon?
I use Firefox for my browser, and it has a feature with a bookmark toolbar. Any bookmarks you place there are always visible. I use it for temporary items like that to provide quick access.
Best budget phono preamp?
The Channel Island Audio VPP-1 is a nice little pre that is in your budget range.
Best Sounding Red Book CD Changer Under $400
Zinfan2, I also have a CL-5 that I bought almost 2 years ago as NOS still sealed in box from ebay. I love it, great player. My main complaint, aside from no digital output, is the disc numbers on the tray are simply molded into the black plastic a...
HT pass through or 2 sets cables?
Great it worked well for you. I have been doing this for over a year now, and have been extremely satisfied.
outlaw 950 setup
I had a 950, but always ran it in 5.1. I suggest you contact Outlaw directly, either through their forums or support. Their support is outstanding, and you would get it right from the horses mouth, so to speak. John
is it sacrilege?
If it still sounds good, then you can get copies of the statues and sell them as "speaker enhancers" or such!
HT pass through or 2 sets cables?
You can do what I do, run the LT/RT mains outs from the HT processor (or receiver in your case) to one of the inputs on the integrated. Now select that input, and turn the volume control in integrated to a readily-remembered setting. I and many ot...
HT pass through or 2 sets cables?
Home theater pass-through would be best. 2 sets of speaker cables would require either manually changing them when you changed amps, or hooking up a switch box of some sort. You shouldnt hook up 2 amps to one set of speakers at the same time.
Matching power at maximum rating for?
Yep. If you start hearing strained or distorted sound, then it is time for a larger power amp. If it sounds sweet and smooth at the volume levels you like, more power wont do anything but empty your wallet.
spade connector around post or 1 prong thru hole?
Never seen one with a plastic washer on the post. That certainly seems like a less than ideal situation.
putting speaker vertical or horizontal?
I remember I had a pair of AR-12's, and they even had the logo on a post on the front, so you could swivel it for horizontal operation. I tried it once. Just once. They sounded awful. YMMV. John
spade connector around post or 1 prong thru hole?
The spade connection is not primarily from fitting tight against the post, but rather from the clamping force of the nut squeezing down on it. If you think about contact area, there is only a very thin edge against the post, but the flat area on t...
