Esoteric K-01/K-03 Owners
Interesting stuff. I am a K-03 owner using strictly physical discs, but have been investigating PC sourced audio for a long time. Unfortunately for me, I have been paralyzed by analysis and confusion, as the world of dsd, double dsd, PCM, etc has ...
Music server for a newbie
Icorem, I understand your confusion. I've been looking at this on and off for a year. I absolutely agree that I would love to see a shootout among servers, but I too believe that will not happen anytime soon. That wait is indeed worthless. It seem...
Music server for a newbie
Some suggestions to check out for single box solution that rips, stores and plays (I, like you, have no interest in building or messing with computers):Musica PristinaMusic VaultBaetisAntipodesNo need to understand computers, no need for a separat...
Mac Mini with Wavelength DAC
Hifigi, how did you rip your hi-res discs? Thought you couldn't rip SACD?
Music Servers - Baetis vs. Music Vault
Actually, let me not sell the Baetis short, as if they do nothing special. They do indeed, but differently, and claim their different methodology sounds better. They specifically focus on a "perfected" SPDIF-BNC output directly from a special moth...
Music Servers - Baetis vs. Music Vault
Barrelchief, that's exactly what I was alluding to in my last post. I suspect that, based on all the positive reviews for virtually every server out there, most servers do a very good to excellent job at "serving", even though they may use differe...
Music Servers - Baetis vs. Music Vault
Vicks, thanks much for the info. Honestly, I find it very interesting and a bit odd that the Baetis sounds so good via it's USB output when John Mingo readily admits that he didn't really do much with USB other than to include it, preferring to fo...
Music Servers - Baetis vs. Music Vault
Barrelchief, the big question: how does it compare to whatever you used before as a transport (a CDP, BDP, etc?)? Also looking forward to responses from txlef and vicks7.
PS Audio Direct Stream
I may start a new thread on this, but is it true that this new breed of DACs, like this PSA DirectStream, and the new Chord DACs, are fairly impervious to the quality of the server feeding it? That seems to be an underlying impression I'm getting ...
Music Servers - Baetis vs. Music Vault
Vicks7, that's very interesting. Couple of questions:>Is there a difference between the USB and SPDIF outputs in terms of sound quality? Is one better than the other, and by how much?>Why are you using a separate PC to rip and download into ...
Music Servers - Baetis vs. Music Vault
Txlef, I see that you use it in your "HT system", not your much more expensive 2 channel rig. I think the $64,000 question is how does it sound as a transport with your best equipment? Have you tried it in your 2 channel system using the emm labs ...
Music Servers - Baetis vs. Music Vault
Hey barrel chief, I've been looking at these as well as the Musica Pristina units (made by the Spectron guys). Unfortunately, haven't heard any of them, and each takes a somewhat different design tack. My only problem with Music Vault is that ther...
Wyred 4 Sound - DAC2 DSD SE - Excellent upgrade
Audioman, checking back in. What's the word from your source?
Goodbye Sonos, hello ????
What about the one box rip/store/playback solutions like those from Musica Pristina, Music Vault, Baetis, W4S, etc? They are all pre-configured and optimized for SQ (and do hi-res) but take different approaches in hardware/software to get there. T...
Esoteric K-05 or K-07?
Yashu, sorry for delayed response. Mine is on top of my rack, so I have no issue. However, it never gets hot or even warm, and sometimes I have CD's piled on top. Also, there are no vents on top of the K-03, so I doubt there is any heat dispersion...
