Considering the Rule of Diminishing Returns.......
Check out the PSB Silver i's - you can find great deals on the net. The reason I mention them is that a previous poster mentioned the Golds, which I used to own before I bought my Aerials. The Golds are in fact very placement sensitive (very heavy...
Are loudspeakers that different?
Thanks folks, appreciate the insight. If I can redirect however, and get your additional input, I should have been more clear perhaps. Since I can not audition speakers I was hoping to do so through anyone willing to offer their experiences - - by...
Revel vs. Aerial vs. B&W
In the event you're near the East coast Mr. Kelly of Aerial is giving a demo of the 20t's in Raleigh, NC at the end of June at Audioadvice. (I just received a mailer; not involved personally...) I wish I had your dilemma!
Am I going insane?
I don't normally join in these sorts of discussions when all the good advice has already been given, but I wanted to second P mmk's post about brightness. It may be an assumption of course that the Boston's are brighter in sound than the B&W's...
For organ afficianados
For those interested - I just realized I made an error - the review of this CD was not in TAS but in The Audiophile Voice. Sorry for the mix up.
For organ afficianados
Tom, I'm jealous! The booklet actually talks about your Aunt a bit. One of my dreams is to some day sit there and play "Come, Sweet Death" a la Virgil Fox in his famous 1939 performance. There is a later recording of it (BTW, that is also availabl...
Speaker Recs for McIntosh and Jupiter Combo?
If you're looking for something perhaps temporary, or maybe even long term, when I was buying my McIntosh equipment the dealer hooked up a pair of PSB Stratus Bronze's, the cheapest of the Stratus series, apologizing that that was the best he had ...
Most achingly-beautiful music
Verdi's Requiem - the whole thing.
RR Copland CD speaker killer?
Thanks again for your informative responses - I am impressed here with your level of interest/help. That been said, I won't dispute Keith's post, but I will repeat (see earlier) that when I plugged in headphones to this recording (back when I had ...
RR Copland CD speaker killer?
Interestingly enough, the speakers started making the sound at about 80-85 Dbls - which was the level recorded at the peak of the drum "thwack", 3 ft. away from the left speaker. Any more than that and it got worse quickly...
RR Copland CD speaker killer?
Thanks TWL for the informative response - it puts it into perpective for me. But note though that even when connected to my MC300 (300 w/ch) at the 4 ohm tap I still got the same sound (I presume these would clip well beyond where the Rowland woud...
Aerial 6's lighter in the low end than the 7b's...
I own the 6's and find them very satisfactory in the bass area; my radio shack SPL meter gives me flat response with the 6's down to about 35 Hz (aside from room interaction - see below). As always with bass, it really depends on your room. Look a...
Bass Response and concrete floors
I had a pair of PSB Stratus Gold i's which I used both downstairs (concrete slab w/ carpeting) and upstairs (wood floor with carpeting). Bass downstairs seemed much tighter - punchier even. It was strange, too - downstairs (same room dimensions BT...
Need a speak/amp compatibility opinion.......
I own the model 6's and have been quite happy with them. They do need power though - they are not incredibly efficient. One of the best things about them though that most people overlook is the 3 way design. Most comparable loudspeakers (smaller t...
Newbie help with speakers for Mac
I owned Mac separates for a while and found a great synergy with B&W matrix line.
