Technics Sp10 Mk2 vs SL-1200G - I finally did an A/B
Speaking of Berning OTL using SMPS supply, an example of SMPS being used in "cost-no-objects" audio is in Trinity DAC, line level preamp and phono preamp (I haven't heard the last one personally).
BaerWald vs VPI setup protractors
@cleeds I'm not clear about designated overhang point in "That's how you can ensure tangency at the designated overhang point".Can you kindly explain? Do you mean the OH must be measured only at a specific point?
BaerWald vs VPI setup protractors
The Conrad Hoffman protractor is a PDF so while printing it, have a ruler ready to measure the actual print. Increase or decrease the print scale by as little as 1 to 2% and re-print it. It's best to print it at a professional print shop with plot...

Thanks, Raul.Mine has now about 150+ hours. I usually take great pains while cleaning used records. My guess is this recent bunch of records I bought used are not that quiet. I'll also play my other records (which I know to be quiet).@cardani : th...

Upcoming Technics SP-10R (100th Anniversary Model)
Example of SMPS power done right for audio is Trinity's DAC and line level pre (and I'm told their phono pre too).
How to pick a COMPATIBLE phono cartridge

How to pick a COMPATIBLE phono cartridge
You can use the calculator on this page to see gain needed for a particular output. For example, for 0.8 mV output you need gain of 52 dB.Details of how they arrive at this value is explained in the page. However, gain matching is only one aspect. ...

Your 3009/II Improved is a low mass arm and will work best with the Shure V15 VxMR.I used to mount my TD124/I with 3009/II non improved, and it sounded okay. Later I went through a series of arms and settled on a Schroeder clone. The 124 comes aliv...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Just a quick report on the Astatic MF 200 that I had been intermittently using since the 8th of August. I had reported earlier that the bass was rather reticent and Raul had advised me to rack up at least 30 to 40 hours. It took me longer than it ...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Thanks for the advice, Raul. So I'll spin more records for now.
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
So I received a NOS Astatic MF200 today and it's playing the tenth LP side as I type.I have optimized arm alignment to the best that I'm capable of, and so far played around with incrementally positive VTA. The sound was straightaway very likable....
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
@chakster Lots of interesting info and photos. Thanks for taking the time and effort. Any idea how different are the Shibata and the Elliptical, sound wise? I came across a few listings of X-1 IIs in various avatars but hesitant to pull the trigge...

@chakster Thanks for your response. Much appreciated!I guess I'll have to suck it and see/hear for myself how the Azzurra sounds. @halcro I've recently seen a number of Victor X-1/IIs listed on Jauce (all used, some without stylus).
