Dunlavy SC4 Speakers
Junkie, sorry; I can't give you any info on the AR9's, but I just thought I'd chime in anyhow. I have a pair of SC3's that I bought over 10 years ago. To this day I'm always blown away by how they sound. They are very revealing, meaning that if yo...
Sandy's Impact on your Listening
I still have no power in the Northern Stony Point area of Rockland County NY. I had 3 huge thick trees fall on my lines, which ripped all the wires off of my house. I had no house damage, but I'm consulting an arborist real soon. I'm taking some t...
Thirty dollar upgrade worth thousands
Wow, that's a first. Who would have thought? People rarely pay attention to this matter. Not the most appetizing subject, but makes total sense. And it most likely will improve your auditory reception. Thanks for the tip.
life of speakers?
I have a pair of Dunlavy SC 3's that I bought in 1995. And they are still kicking booty!
Hi pitched hum from TT pre-amp?
Thanks Lewm and Atmasphere. I'm going to take a look under the "hood" this weekend. And, actually, I was playing an LP last night, and it sounded muddy and a bit compacted and boomy. So, something is going on.
Hi pitched hum from TT pre-amp?
Thanks for your responses. Yes, it is an old unit. I had it checked out about 7 years ago, and tweaked to match my cartridge. I think it needs to go back for a check up.best regards.
Laying it on the line

Idol fans weigh in
I agree with the posters here who like Jessica. I think she exhibits strength, intonation, and control like someone twice her age. Dave Mathews, I mean Philips, sounds (and looks) like nails scratching a chalkboard. Joshua over sings and chose a b...
Best Jazz pianist
I can't believe that no one mentioned Chic Corea!
Sub wolfer advice
Dancer,I'd take Krell's advice and run rca out of your pre-amp to your sub. I have my rig set with the same signal routing and it works fine. Simple is better.Good luck!
Any Caviar Fans Here?

Critical Listening Training Document
Alonski wrote:"That hypnotic groove machine zone is an indescribable state of musical nirvana for musicians. How lucky are we to have experienced that in this life, huh?"Yes, very lucky indeed. I miss those Nirvana moments. Sometimes during a guit...
Critical Listening Training Document
In my case, as in Alonski's (thanks for the great thread), being a musician has greatly aided my critical listening as an audiophile. Though currently not a pro, I started real young (in high school and college) by helping support myself by playin...
Just Turned 50...
Just turned 54 myself. I've always had sensitive hearing: can hear trains in the distance long before anyone else can. I can hear the squirrels jaw chomping on acorns at the top of a 60 foot oak. Although I am sure if I had a hearing test 10 years...
What started you on your audiophile journey .
My journey started when I was about 5 years old; sitting on the floor in front of an old Magnovox mono record player console with a single 6 inch speaker as I was banging away on an old tattered paperback book with a pair of drumsticks while a Bea...
