Where to go in Portland...
I'll echo the vote for Echo. Kurt is both nice and knowledgeable.  Fred's (on Hawthorne) has the vibe of a vintage stereo shop (circa 1960s) but a more limited selection compared to Stereotypes. Fred's is an authorized dealer for many high-end bra...
Catastrophic Accident! What To Do!?
Chazro: The only option you've raised that seems illogical to me is ditching your entire music collection and forgoing listening (which presumably gives you a bit of pleasure) because you damaged the amplifier. Personally, I'd not pursue the homeo...

What unknown musical artist would you like to share with your fellow audiophiles?
I'd also add the soundtrack from the otherwise mediocre film "Kansas City" by Robert Altman. It's out-of-print. Performed by The Kansas City Band. The other album from that film "After Dark" is on Tidal.
What unknown musical artist would you like to share with your fellow audiophiles?
The Reverend Horton Heat: amazing psycho-hillbilly-rock trio.
What unknown musical artist would you like to share with your fellow audiophiles?
Blodwyn Pig, "Ahead Rings Out"Apropos of the current time, the eponymous "Fraternity of Man" first album.
What unknown musical artist would you like to share with your fellow audiophiles?
"Living with the Animals" by "Mother Earth" with Tracey Nelson as lead singer circa 1968. Parts of this long out-of-print album have appeared on Tidal. Powell St. John (a sometime member of the 13th Floor Elevators, an important proto-psychedelic ...
Is the Last Record Preservative system a worthwhile investment?
The problem as I see it is this: anyone who applies Last to a record is (by definition) someone who cares for their records. In other words, that person is an audiophile and will likely be very careful about cleaning, etc. So, how can you separate...
Thoughts on VTA......
Robelvick: You wrote, "I keep adjusting my tonearm until the vinyl sounds as good/better than the Tidal stream." If Tidal's sound quality is your reference and you're adjusting VTA to match it, why not simply listen to most of your music streamed ...
Thoughts on VTA......
I think that obsessively fussing with things like VTA for each record is one of the reasons I now mostly listen to Tidal and only use my vinyl for select music. In other words, after a while I noticed I was fiddling more with the rig and listening...
If you could only keep 5 record albums, what would they be?
Bach, The Musical OfferingBeethoven, Symphony #9Miles Davis, Kind of BlueRolling Stones, Sticky FingersMuddy Waters, Folk Singer These are not specific pressings, simply preferences as to what I would prefer listening to given no other options.
White Album Deluxe Anniversary edition
I purchased the 4 album vinyl re-issue (awaiting delivery) even though I own an original US copy. I'm not sure why I did that, since it's available on hifi streaming services such as Tidal...
Hendrix 50th Anniversary Electric Ladyland Box Release
I own a virgin (pun intended) copy of the "Electric Ladyland" nude cover album (both the vinyl and the cover). I friend brought it back for me from the UK when it was first released and I've carefully curated it. An interesting cover and a good al...
What is the most memorable concert that you had attended so far?
First place: Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band + It's A Beautiful Day at the (abandoned) Fox West Coast Theater in Long Beach, California, circa 1972.Second place: The Mothers of Invention at the Phoenix Star Theater just after the release of "...
Is the Vinyl Revival well and growing?
bdp24, I live about 0.6 mile from Music Millenium and I've concluded that the records there are "overpriced". However, the store does need to pay overhead and it's bordering Laurelhurst, an expensive area so that likely accounts for the costs (not...
