Luxman tables
I bought a new PD 277 in 1981, and still have it. The automatic function broke after about 10 years, but it sounded so good, I continued to use it as a manual until I just replaced it about 6 months ago.

tube amp dilemma with electrostats
I add my vote for ARC. I drive Acoustats with Ref 300's with NOS tubes, and I'm a happy camper.
Tube rolling ARC amps & Steelhead
What ever happened to the days when you could just walk into a store and buy a stereo?I've purchased 2 1962 S/H CCa's and 4 Bendix 6900's for the Steelhead. I'll post my impressions when they get here. I'm also going to try the TungSol's - it'll b...
Tube rolling ARC amps & Steelhead
Has anyone tried replacing the 6922's in the Steelhead with NOS (1960's) Siemens CCa's?
Tube rolling ARC amps & Steelhead
Thanks for your post, Cjfrbw.I'm going to try upgrading the 7044's, per your suggestion. The Steelhead is a wonderful piece of equipment, as you point out, and it deserves to be "maxed out."With my ARC gear, I've also replaced the Russian 6L6GC in...
Audio Research Ref 3 Opinions
For those with Ref 2 Mk II's who aren't quite ready to trade up yet, here's a suggestion. I recently swapped out the stock 5AR4 tube in my Ref 2 Mk II for a Gold Lion, and I was blown away by the changes. It added a kind of "immediacy" to the soun...
Best Find Ever???
A Luxman T-12 tuner in mint condition on eBay for Buy-It-Now $150.
would you bother?
late post, but - At any time there are approximately 150,000 LP's (used and new) for sale on eBay, most of them in pristine condition, and often selling selling for a fraction of the price of a CD. As one example, I recently got a dozen Count Basi...
Review: Luxman PD-284 Turntable
I couldn't agree more. I have a Luxman PD 277, which is very similar, direct drive, automatic. The tonearm may be a little better than that on the 284. The automatic function doesn't even work any more, but I'm still using this table as my preferr...
Old Classic Receivers: A Mistake to Buy?
I purchased a Luxman 1120A new in 1982. It worked fantastically well for almost 20 years. I liked it so much, in fact, that when it finally started to "go" last year, I invested about twice what I paid for it originally to have it completely rebuil...
Best female vocals on CD
What an amazing thread! Is this an Audiogon record? Incredible amounts of useful information here.My vote - EVA CASSIDY. She had incredible natural talent. I can only imagine how her voice would have matured if she had survived. Even so, the recor...
Top Ten Speakers of All Time?
Acoustat Spectra 66 - deepest bass of any full-range electrostat ever made, & sensational imaging. Only downside is need huge room to sound their best.
Why does this circa '75 receiver sound so good?
Late post to a very interesting thread. I acquired a new Luxman R1120A receiver in 1982 (1976 design). It sounded so wonderful with Acoustat Monitor 3's that I never thought about listening to anything else for 15 years. Since they have both broke...
ribbon or electrostatic speakers
With some hesitation (only because they are all but impossible to find) I recommend the Acoustat Spectra 66 or Spectra 6600's. They probably have the largest surface area of any full-range electrostat ever built (6 panels), but image exceptionally...
