McIntosh Guy Going Tubes? (Maybe?)
I have to be a heretic here. I've had an ocean of Mc30, 60, 75, 225, 240, 275, and while I loved the look, I was never all that impressed by the sound. On the other hand, I found the rather humble and neglected MA230 to sound better than all of th...
Items for sale here and on ebay without remotes....
Clean up day? Heck yes! A guy at work some years ago gave me a huge Klein & Hummel amp and preamp that he had picked up at his neighbors on one of those pick up days. He knew I was an audio guy so he just grabbed them and said here you go. The...
Items for sale here and on ebay without remotes....
I don't know what kind of area you guys live in but to me the whole idea that a significant percentage of items sans remotes are stolen is bizarre. I've picked up a large number of receivers for instance at garage sales. Very few have remotes. Are...
what can reasonably be expected of a seller?
Now wait a second, I can't speak for those second rate carriers but if you mail something through the Post Office, either the sender or addressee can initiate the claim. You can designate which should be the payee. I would always advise customers t...
what can reasonably be expected of a seller?
C'mon now. If they say it's "untested" the odds are it doesn't work. If you're capable of repairing something and can get it for peanuts, fine. Otherwise, don't buy anything "untested".
Bob Carver new tune expected
Bob is a great guy. Sure, he's not the niche of the month that you see here on audiogon but then again, I see lots of names here that quickly become fleeting fame. Bob's still around after all these years. He gets my vote as a straight shooter.Lan...
Low Watt Solid State Amp
Try an SAE Mark 31B for about $100. I think you'll have a lot of fun.
I hate biasing!
I agree completely. I used to have a Marantz 8b and it drove me to distraction with all the fussy fiddling over the bias. Get an amp that has cathode bias. Likely cost you less and save all the fuss and bother.
Dynaco A25 -Hard to Believe
First speakers I ever had. Sold them to a friend many years ago. I would not have sold them to a friend if they weren't great. He understood that. Good memories there.
What Matters and What is Nonsense
It's funny, I've been an "Audiophile" for going on 50 years myself. I've spent my time in recording studios and built countless amps from scratch. Does that make my opinion more valid? Of course it doesn't. The original poster made his points in a...
Beware the audio guru
It's like i always said, never believe what you hear you'll hear, only believe what you hear, hear?
Yanni or Laurel?
Oh futz. People are different and what one hears does not mean that what the other hears is wrong. Haven't you ever looked at a sky with clouds on a nice day out of your left eye and then out of your right? The two eyes are different. Is one right...
too bad Audiogon seems to have morphed to fussy, picky buyers
Oh I don't know. I've only had a limited number of transactions on Audiogon and only encountered one rude idiot. That's not bad at all compared to what I've found on eBay. Craigslist, despite what you hear, has always been easy and cordial. That's...
What's Your Take on This ?
Really? I had an original 535 and never considered it worth beans. I've had hundreds of basic amps, most of which I've made but plenty of commercial designs and I have to say that the Adcom 535 was utterly undistinguished. The original preamps tha...
The Method of Tuning
Hi Michael,Well, you did it there. Honestly, a lot of this hobby has long been about showing off how much one can afford. There's a lot of the overblown and pompous, not everywhere, but there's too much of look at what I've got and not enough fun....
