The Worst Speaker you have ever heard.
03-01-03: ZaikesmanThe worst $$K speaker I've ever personally encountered from a 'major' manufacturer came from Velodyne, of all companies.I'm probably going to make some enemies saying this, but I've never heard a good speaker made by a subwoofer...
Do you "treat" your speakers rubber surrounds?
LOL @ Seasoned's dust removal process!
Denon's new Blu-Ray player
I'm with Tvad.Four years is my window to buy a new player. In the meantime I've ordered a new Gefen scaler, and will be testing it out with my now old Denon DVD2200.
Power conditioners
I've got a Monster 5100 Signature Series, and have been quite pleased with it in terms of reduced noise floor and improved dynamics.Pretty much everyone and their dog has gotten into the power conditioning business, and there's way more to choose ...
How much money for your next interconnect cable???
Free.I'm well connected.
Blockbuster goes Blu-ray, HD DVD=beta?,
I'm writing this from the Denver Airport on my way back from CEDIA Expo. I saw a LOT of Blu-ray and HD-DVD demos in the last week. Much like last year, they alternated between breathtakingly good looking, and "meh."Just like DVD (or any other form...
How many more years before cd's become passe?
...now that's ominous.Mitch4tMitch4t, you're not kidding!
How many more years before cd's become passe?
I think CD will live on as a niche product in the same way that vinyl does. For the mass market, downloads are eclipsing hardcopy. In addition to the thin, lo-rez stuff on iTunes, high quality lossless downloads from MusicGiants, Naxos and others ...
Why so expensive??
Dr. Floyd Toole at Harman is fond of pointing to graphs in his presentations that in double-blind testing, the majority of listeners identify speakers in the ~$1500/pair range as "sounding best" and that speakers that cost ~$20K fare as poorly in ...
Blockbuster goes Blu-ray, HD DVD=beta?,
08-21-07: Rysa4Pretty major stuff really, in the minor world of Hi Def DVDs.That's just it, isn't it? I've still got a nagging suspicion that this is a tempest in a tea cup, and this particular format war will end up with NO winners.
Blockbuster goes Blu-ray, HD DVD=beta?,
This saga never seems to end.Now Paramount has dumped Blu-ray, at least for now.
Blockbuster goes Blu-ray, HD DVD=beta?,
I think you're right, Johnnyb53. It just strikes me as odd that Sony would not extend themselves to be first to market with a Blu-ray camcorder. You could argue that they're letting Hitachi test the waters of the market, but there's something to b...
Blockbuster goes Blu-ray, HD DVD=beta?,
I admit to being startled that Hitachi is launching the first two Blu-ray camcorders this fall. I remember when Sony was the king of the camcorder, and I'm surprised that they weren't first to market with a Blu-ray Handycam.
Blockbuster goes Blu-ray, HD DVD=beta?,
For sure. In the case of the iPod, the accessory market is critical for retailers because the dealer markup on iPod is <10%. But I digress.
Blockbuster goes Blu-ray, HD DVD=beta?,
Shadorne, you make an excellent point about prestige ownership vs mass-market consuption. The accelerated race to zero for HD-DVD is troubling when you compare it to the more gradual price compression of DVD. By comparison, the decine of the price...
