Wacky Question about cartridges
I'm leaning towards a VPI Aries 1 w/JMW etc but your comments about cartridge choice mirror my experience esp. "A great cartridge on an average table is significantly better than the other way around."An excellent summary and 'mantra' -thanks.
Wacky Question about cartridges
Thanks all! -Qdrone nailed it! It was a Monster Genesis! I MAY have bought a Benz Glider as well but in 1995 I made a major move and sold my Oracle MkII and cartridges. This is why keeping a journal is a great idea but, I just don't have the time!....
What is a very nice sounding tube preamp?
The OP has probably found a preamp however I feel that I must offer my 2cents:I finally found a Vac Standard Preamp. I entered the Vac family in October of 2012 with a Renaissance 30/30mkII and the Standard seemed like a good choice. Speakers are ...
sand versus shot in speaker stands
Lead is preferable for weighting speakers IMHO. Handle it gently; just don't put it in your mouth or nose and you won't die or lose your mind.Given the possible toxicity, I put it in ziploc bags first - the in the speaker base. When I have used it...
Cat damaged speaker, Help
1 -Personally? I would have the driver repaired professionally OR I would replace the driver.2 -Get the cat(s) a scratching post.A nice, tall one covered in sisal. Give the cat(s) a cat treat when they use it. Leave a couple of treats on the top o...
The best speaker you ever heard?
He's apparently lost his hearing so he shouts. Like the guy in the FedEx spot.:-)

This may sound a bit silly but why are so many
I'm having the opposite problem. Looking for a specific (which will remain unspecified) tube amp. Why so few?
Dark and laid back vs bright and forward
Great Answer - thanks

Your First Concert was.....
National Symphony Orchestra - Children's Series - Fort Meyer Arlington VA, Probably 1956 or 57. The first really moving concert was Glenn Gould at Lisner Auditorium in DC - had to have been 1958 or 59. I can conciously remember Gould and how he ho...

Who's your guitar daddy now?
Mon dieu - there are so many. I feel fortunate to have seen all of the above live. Though I was pretty young when I saw Segovia at Lisner Auditorium in DC and Montgomery at the Cellar Door. All I really wanted was to go to a Redskins game but than...
Which Vivaldi Four Seasons CD to buy???
The Pinnock 4 Seasons on Archiv is probably the best. I keep trying to find a better one. That said, TFS is one of the most overplayed pieces of the Baroque period. I find that I have to limit my exposure. If I hear one more overly florid Largo fr...
which cowboy junkies cd?
Is simply one of the most natural sounding recordings I have ever heard. It was recorded very minimally and to me, this is an immense blessing. To echo what others have said, a bad Cowboy Junkies recording does not exist.
