Not liking the new Mac Mini 2018 sound
I am surprised you hear a difference between the Mini and MacBook Pro. When you hear the differences, are you streaming wirelessly to an Airport Express or connecting via USB. Are all your iTunes settings the same, equalizer off and no volume adju...
Emotiva equipmet, how good is it?
I realize the XDA-2 is out of production, besides the OP was asking about Emotiva amps. I only stated my experience with an Emotiva product because he was curious about quality of their products. I did not dismiss Schitt DACs, I only said I tried ...
Which power cords should I look at?
I have a question regarding lowering the noise floor. How low should it be? In my case, I do not have any power conditioners, or high end power cords. I am using laboratory grade 14 gauge power cords for my systems which cost about $15 to $20 each...
Emotiva equipmet, how good is it?
Interesting how some people find the Emotive XDA-1 bright, but I never did. I would say it was brighter sounding than the XDA-2 but never harsh or too bright. I cannot stand a bright sound or any speakers with a harsh high end. For instance Klipsc...
Emotiva equipmet, how good is it?
My experience with the Emotive DACs has been very positive. Not at all bright or thin sounding. I purchased 3 Emotiva XDA-1 DACs about 8 years ago for my 3 systems. I had them for over 3 years and during that time compared them to other DACs at si...
How important is it for you to attain a holographic image?
n80, I totally agree with you. Everything you said regarding the size of the soundstage and placement of singers and instruments is identical to what I hear with my systems, although my systems components are totally different than your system. I ...
Skeptic or just plain hard headed
Yes you are correct, if the crystalline structure of the metal changed, the SEM should be able to observe it. For burn-in, I don't think there is enough energy to produce such physical changes. However, I believe changes can occur to the electroni...
Skeptic or just plain hard headed
I doubt Scanning Electron Microscopy would detect any difference between new and burned-in cables. I don't think there is enough energy to produce physical changes durning burn-in but there may be enough to produce electronic changes. Morrow state...
Apple TV Streaming Sound Quality vs Streamer?
I have never used Tidal, so I can't comment on its SQ with an Apple TV. I  wirelessly stream my lossless ripped CDs from my iMac or my wife's MacBook Pro to either an Apple TV or an Airport Express and use the optical out into a DAC. In my experie...
Emotiva equipmet, how good is it?
I have not used any of the Emotive amps but i have used their DACs. About 8 years ago i purchased my first stand alone DAC which was an Emotive XDA-1. I was pleased with it and later added 2 more to my other systems as i started streaming my rippe...
Questions about Node 2i
You have to be careful with iTunes. for the best sound quality the EQ has to be off, the volume adjust should be at the center point (none), and the volume control at the upper left should always be at maximum. Otherwise the SQ will be affected. A...
Questions about Node 2i
I believe you are correct about the Apple TV downsampling Hi-Res files, that is why i suggested using it if you are playing ripped CDs on your computer. I have never played any HI-Res files. I stream my ripped CDs wirelessly to an Apple TV or Airp...
Questions about Node 2i
If you are just wirelessly streaming your ripped CDs from your computer to several systems in different rooms, the most cost effective way is using an Apple TV or Airport Express. They are only about $50 on eBay or CL. In my experience the SQ from...
Help with choosing music server
I have been streaming my ripped CDs wirelessly using iTunes from my Mac to either an Apple TV or an Airport Express for 8 years and have never had a dropout or any issues. My router is an Apple Airport Extreme. It has always worked flawlessly. I h...
Help with choosing music server
Just leave your computer on and using the remote app on an iPhone or iPad you can start up your music from iTunes in seconds. I have owned Macs since 1984 and never turned them off. Just have them go to sleep when not in use.
