Sunday Morning Suggestions?
slaw, on your advise i listened to carry the ghost--it's good (very reminiscent of damien rice/j tillman)--much more subdued than his newer one, white noise, which is louder/heavier and closer in approach to elliott smith
What's in your CDP tonight? the minority report
swervedriver, raise--their (very good) latter releases are likened to shoegaze peers like my bloody valentine and ride, but this debut is much closer to the overamped roar of dinosaur jr. or the stooges. despite the frenzy, they have a great sense...
Sunday Morning Suggestions?
slaw, a couple of new names on your list--noah gunderson sounds interesting. thanks.
Trouble in Fleetwood Mac.......
kiln house was my favorite too (future games being second best)--it was the transition between the peter green blues era and the later pop stuff. danny kirwan was an underrecognized genius and his songs like "dust" and "jewel eyed judy" are classics.
A Budget Amp Comparison
cj, i do not perceive michael's very cordial posts as any form of sales pitch--he expressed an opinion and responded to a question regarding a piece of budget gear, which he doesn't even sell. one might choose not to buy into his tuning blocks or ...
Trouble in Fleetwood Mac.......
mike campbell is one of my all-time favorite guitarists, and neil finn is a hugely underrecognized songwriter, one of the best of the last decade, so i hope they get to show their own stuff and not merely recycle old fm songs.
A Budget Amp Comparison
michaelgreenaudio:is the sherwood receiver you're referring to the rx-4105? looks like a generic piece widely available for $60-70 used, but your rec is intriguiging....
Converting FLAC Files
thanks guys--i'll try xld or dbpoweramp
Whats on your turntable tonight?
i listened to side b of da capo onceĀ  and vowed never again. side a, otoh, is as strong a set of songs as was produced in the 60s--"7+7 is" is a stone masterpiece.
Transport
the denon 3520 or 3560 are as heavy-duty as it gets--you can pm me
The new Synergistic Research BLUE fuses ....
i don't care about fuses, and haven't waded thru this thread, but note that i've never seen seen almarg, who is the paragon of dignity, make a harsh comment before--his target must have been really, really out of line...
Oppo Ceasing production
we probably shouldn't be so surprised, as physical media is in rapid decline; even the market for high-end streaming devices is probably on the wane with the proliferation of smart tvs and very capable, inexpensive streamers. it's sad, though--opp...
max length of toslink or coaxial digital cable without signal degradation?
opinions vary, but the majority view is that optical is better over long distances--less prone to emi/rf interference. if you think about it, carriers use fiber optic to connect between cities and countries.
Neil Young - Guitarist
very good post by bdp24--i personally don't respond to guitarists like clapton or eddie van halen who are more about technique than "musicality," the mind-boggling richard thompson being the exception. as for neil young, i believe he's got better ...
New to Digital
the first thing i'd do is upgrade to spotify premium ($10/mo.) or tidal ($20/mo.), which have much better libraries and sq than amazon music. next, instead of your bluetooth receiverĀ  i would get a google chromecast ($35), which uses wifi, and con...
