Getting into Tube Equipment
Unless you get an integrated amp, you will need a preamp. This is separate from your phono preamp. Maybe a solid state integrated with tube phono stage would be the way to go. I had both an Dynaco ST-70 (which is only 35 watts per channel and Mar...
Strange Noise from PrimaLuna DiaLogue One
If your  PrimaLuna is around 8 years old it is no longer under warranty. I would have a local tech take a look at it. If you don't know a good one, your dealer may have a suggestion. Since the hum is in both channels my guess is that the problem ...
Strange Noise from PrimaLuna DiaLogue One
I don't think you are getting the most from your Elipsa SE with the  PrimaLuna DiaLogue One. The Elipsa SE really need more power to sound their best. I use an Audio Research Ref 110 to drive my Elipsa SE. I think around 100 wpc is a good startin...
Luxman vs Pass Labs
I think that you are comparing apples to oranges. I would look at these two Pass pieces individually. The Pass  XA 30.5 is an excellent sounding amplifier. I was not impressed with the XP10. The 2 people I know that have Pass amps don't have Pas...
Future of Analog Technology Media
HD Vinyl looks interesting and you can play it on your current analog setuphttps://hdvinyl.org/
Audio Research REF 3 and REF 5 Tweaks
Hmmmm, I'm not sure that's true. It's certainly not mentioned in any of the ARC owner's manuals that I've seen. It would also pose a potential shock hazard so it's a hard practice to recommend - even if some users with no children or pets do it ...
Tube temperature for ARC Ref 6
Everything seems slightly more solid with more air as I remember. It has been quite awhile. I know people that have put them on 6550 tubes but I have not. tried  Only you can decide if they are worth the cost..
Audio Research REF 3 and REF 5 Tweaks
ARC use to recommend no cover. before they introduced the Plexi covers. The problem is that the Plexi cover will start to melt over time and dip slightly above the 6550 tube if you leave in on for long periods. There is no way that the Plexi cov...
Tube temperature for ARC Ref 6
I use the UltraSonic Rx-9 on all the 6H30 tubes in my system with great results. I have had them for years and they still look just like new. I don't use a tube damper on the 6550 tubes.
Audio Research REF 3 and REF 5 Tweaks
The Plexiglas covers  tend to melt and create a small depression above the 6550 tube. Audio Research sent replacement metal covers at no charge to people that complained. I have compared the metal to the Plexiglas cover as well as no cover. I can...
I hate biasing!
I check the bias of my Ref 110 every month or so. But I have not had to adjust the bias in quite a while. They are always spot on. Usually I only have to adjust the bias the first couple times after I install new tubes. After the tubes settle in ...
I hate biasing!
You should be using a plastic bias adjustment tool and not a screwdriver. If you are using tubes that are properly matched, you should not have to adjust the bias much once the tubes have initially settled in. The ARC Ref amps are very easy to bi...
Opinions Please - Which Turntable Rack is Better
I also have a VPI turntable rack. I have a large 3" thick maple cutting board as a top and the legs are filled with sand. I have spikes between the cutting board and stand. My Clearaudio Innovation Wood sits on top.  I am in the midst of a cross ...
Furman solves ground loop issue?
Is your turntable grounded to your phono preamp? If so, have you tried moving the wire? Disconnecting it? Without knowing the brand or model of your phono preamp and table it is difficult to make suggestions.  I don't think a Furman power conditi...
Anyone have issues with shipping Canada to USA?
You would think with the North American Free Trade agreement there would be no problems. Every time I have order something from Canada, mostly books, it is a nightmare. Only ship UPS. When something is shipped to me Canadian Post, half the time i...
