Do you ever do this before you listen?
USA Today, Dec. 7, 2018: "A woman who was told by her doctor to rinse her sinuses twice daily to clear up a chronic sinus infection died from a brain-eating amoeba. The woman, 69 from Seattle, was using tap water filtered using a Brita Water Purif...
Do you ever do this before you listen?
@barnettk: I tried what you suggested upon reading your original post, and it immediately plugged up my left ear! I should have read the rest of your and other contributors’ posts before trying it. Now, if I gently occlude my ear canals with the s...
Non-audiophile needs help with older system.
That new old stock (NOS) Acoustic Research Teledyne Synthesized Tuner T-06 on eBay for $130 shipped may not be such a good deal. The important thing to clarify is that the mid-fi mass-market company called "Acoustic Research" is/was completely unr...
Best balanced linestage/preamp for $4000 or less ???
I can highly recommend a used Audio Research LS-16 for your system. I've encountered zero reliability issues with Audio Research. You should be able to find one for less than $2000. Replacement tubes are inexpensive and rarely need changing. Happy...
Does anyone leave their amp and preamp on all the time?
I notice my Audio Research tubed line-level preamps (LS-15 and LS-16) keep the tubes glowing even when turned off; I believe this not only offers better sound sooner but also extends the life of the tubes. (I don't know about tubed amps, however.)...

Romex and breaker switches
Another question. Our living room (including / TV / surround amps / stereo system / powered subwoofer) is at the back end of our house with a peaked ceiling that does not allow for attic access, making rewiring a pain for any electrician. Our hous...
Adcom?
I'm with mattmiller: the Adcom GFA 555 was (and still is) a great bargain-priced amp (used) and perfect for the entry-level audiophile or for someone who wants a decent 2-channel amp for surround speakers. Another great buy for the audiophile on a...

When shopping on Audiogon, to avoid the cost of the frequently encountered phrase, "please add 3% for PayPal" on a heavy, expensive item, I offer to send a certified check by FedEx with next day delivery and the actual cost of FedEx Ground shippin...

Suggestions to help you sell your equipment on Audiogon
Thank you all for your comments and insight. It has been a long time since I have sold on Audiogon (I just keep buying), so I was surprised to learn of the "new" costs and other issues. I have always used my real name as my user name for transpare...
Lifters ForGetting Cables Off The Floor, Worth It Or Snake Oil
There was a kind young man on Audiogon a few years ago who was collecting and offering handsome sets of dark brown, fairly large but not obtrusive antique porcelain insulators for a reasonable price. I gladly bought two sets from him to keep my lo...
