Refurbished Bluesound Vault 2
2.5 or 5 doesn't really make any difference for audio . . . doesn't need that much bandwidth
Bookshelf speakers for near-field (desktop) use
My 2 c.In your situation I would go for powered speakers. Anything mentioned above is a worthy choice but since your space is confined why bother with an amp at all ? With your budget you can get some top of the line near filed powered speakers fr...
What area or country do you live in ?
ItalySome of the stuff you talk about here it's very hard to come by over here
Which area of components to spend the most $ on? Boy I was wrong all my life!
Let me challenge the majority wisdom here.Yes, the overall quality is that of the weakest link, yes if the signal starts bad in the beginning can't improve down the linkBut those are all qualitative statement. Let me try and put some quantitative ...
Budget phono stage under $100, cheap but refined, does it exist?
Musical fidelity V90. Reasonably priced (150?) and quite decent quality. Beeen using one for a period of time, waiting to upgrade my amp, with a Thorens 126 MK III and can't blame the results.
How good's your hearing
I feel like chiming in on this oneObviously the statement about violin highest frequency 600 Hz is totally wrong. Maybe the misconception comes form the fact that the highest "FREE" note you can play on a violin is E5, the fourth string and is aro...
I like my system flat, no tone controls, no eq..........what is your preference, and why.
I sympathize with the OP's viewpoint, still my 2 c:1. Effects, reverb delays, compression, they all belong to music production, not to HiFi listening. Whoever produced the recording you are listening to has applied those already; no point in addin...

Another amateur in need of advice
I want to add to my previous post. I truly believe the industry as a whole is forcing us, the users, to over weight the importance of electronics. How often do you change electronics and how often do you change speakers ? Electronics of far easier...
Another amateur in need of advice
Having dealt professionally with music for 30 years I will challenge one of the previous posts. The biggest mistake you can make is NOT Spending enough on speakers ! The final quality of what you hear depends more than 90% on those components that...
Small speakers for the kitchen - Sensitivity
Thanks a lot for the useful suggestions. I am intrigued by the Silverline Minuets but I am in Europe and they don't seem to be available over here. I have been willing to give the Focal a chance for some time now. Anyone has as experience with the...
Speakers for aging audiophiles - What's with today bass emphasis ?
rhljazz,It's a new room, it never sounded good, yes it's a bad room for listening, close to a cube in shape. As it happens I am not in a position to change room. BM6 probably not the right tool as you say; though I am sad to depart from them as I ...
Speakers for aging audiophiles - What's with today bass emphasis ?
Thank you all for all the exceedingly useful suggestions.I have done some experimenting moving my speakers away from the walls up to some 40". Not much change ! It sounds as if the problem is the room. There' a very clear spike at 70Hz and another...
