Speaker Switch That Protects Tube Amplifier
Almarq - I was hopeful that you would provide input as I value your opinion. The revised plan is to use the dummy load resistor (a parts express item) on both inputs and also put 150 ohm resistors on both inputs to make it a fail safe design for a...

Imhififan - Your responses and link to the other thread made me dig into things a bit more. Thank you.The revised plan is to use a heavy duty 4PDT toggle for each channel. The solid state receiver will be on/off, the tube amplifier will be off/on,...
Integrated Amp Options for Stereo and HT
I was going to suggest the Krell S-300i, but given your stated budget you might try the S-550i. I love the sound of the S-300i and would have one now if I had the cabinet space for it. I have never heard anything Krell that I didn't like.
Speaker Switch That Protects Tube Amplifier
Each channel will effectively have three parallel switched toggled by a single physical switch.
Speaker Switch That Protects Tube Amplifier
The plan is break before make with each channel on a switch. Should I be concerned with the tube amp not being loaded for a instant when the switch is toggled?
Speaker Switch That Protects Tube Amplifier
I had thought about the possibility of using relays, but I think I prefer the passive route. In any case, the parts are on order. Thanks for the idea.
Speaker Switch That Protects Tube Amplifier
I think we have the details worked out on the switch circuit. We'll be using an 8 Ohm 100W Non-Inductive Dummy Load Resistor from Part Express to load the tube amplifier when the speakers are switched to the receiver. I just need to measure the sp...
Where to start
I checked to see if your Sony SACD player in hopes that it would have a digital input and could be used as a DAC.I have a Pioneer Elite PD-D6-J SACD player and also a Maverick TubeMagic D2 (all available upgrades) DAC (both tube and solid state ou...

True. Just gathering as much info as I can. There is always more than one way to do things.

Can you describe the circuit layout you are thinking about?

Viridian - Thanks for the information. My Yaqin MC-30L is rated for about 50 watts per channel is ultralinear mode. So using a 100 watt load resistor should do the trick, right?I'll clarify that when using my Mac and iTunes as the source, the sourc...
Two Amplifiers With One Set of Speakers
This rig won't be used for A/B and will just allow me to switch amps. Switch to the tube before turning it on and back to the receiver after shutting the tube off.
Two Amplifiers With One Set of Speakers
I have been talking to a EE friend of mine and I think we are going to build a custom switch using components from Parts Express. It looks like it will be about $85. It will be a very simple and basic setup with a switch for each channel, but shou...
Brain Games - Watch This - National Geographic
I have seen several of the episodes and it's really amazing how much our brains fill in the details of our sight. I don't think there's any reason to believe that our sight and hearing work differently when it's the same brain interpreting the inp...
Best Minimalist DAC?
I have no complaints with my China made Maverick. It has dual solid state and tube outputs for personal preference.
