What are the weak points of Pass amps and pre-amps ?
Sorry, @wolf_garcia, but the XA25 is the best amp I've used in my system. I've used: CJ MF2550SE, ET250S, Musical Fidelity SS.What I love about the XA25 is that I get >wonderful midrange from the CJs with most of the bass slam of the MF SS. The...
Conrad Johnson preamp: ET5, ET7 (series 1 or 2) or ET3SE ??
I've had both the ET5 and the ET3SE for a number of years.ET5 is awesome...great holographic soundstage, that famous rich CJ midrange, decent tuneful bass, and lovely detailed treble with no harshness.ET3SE is a great preamp too...just not as good...
Anyone try the new Shunyata
I have 3 Defenders in my systems.I use the Defender when I'm not using some other type of power conditioner...e.g., when I have a sub on an duplex, I put the Defender in one of the outlets. I'm not sure it makes much difference in sound quality TB...
Shunyata Delta NR or ???
For around your price, you could likely pick up a used Shunyata Alpha HC power cable (one on sale here now for $750 (I'm not the seller)). Excellent for amps/power distributors and includes noise reduction. I have 3 of the Alpha HCs in my systems ...
Shunyata Sigma Speaker Cables and Interconnects
I have Sigma rca ICs and PCs in my system. I like the sound a lot...organic, lovely midrange and treble, tight and tuneful bass, very quiet. Putting just the Sigma ICs in caused the soundstage to completely disconnect from the speakers and move ou...
Pass labs xa25 amp and BW 804 d3?
A bit late here, but...I’m running Wilson Sophia 3s with the Pass XA25. The Sophia’s are ~87db/1W efficiency. They are made easy to drive (nominal 4Ohm impedance), but not all that efficient. I’ve had the XA25 since last Summer.90 - 100 db is abou...
What are the best speakers you have ever owned and why?
I've owned only two speakers over the last 35 years (was surprised when I wrote that 'cuz I've swapped out everything else multiple times):Dahlquist DQ-10s, from '82 to '13. Lovely, spooky midrange in the room. I loved that the music was "in the a...
USB vs SPDIF, which sounds better?
I've had an Aurender N10 for a year or two and have tried all of its digital outputs. With that player, they're all pretty good. To my ear, here is the stack rank from best to not-so-best:XLR: quietest with the biggest soundstage, great midrange &a...
Conrad Johnson amp and Pass Labs Pre
I run a cj et5 pre and a pass xa25 amp in the main rig. Lovely combo. Holographic soundstage and sweet midrange w taut bass. I like the little pass amp better than the all the cj amps I’ve had.
$10k Speaker Cables??????????????
Are $10K speaker cables worth it?Like many things in life, IME, the answer is "it depends."
Are audiophiles still out of their minds?

mapleshade cable recomendations
I've tried their Ribbon interconnects and Digital SPDIF...whatever their top ones were at the time (about 8 years ago or so).I really like the Ribbon interconnects...great transient snap, great midrange, and bass slam I hadn't heard from my (at th...
New Shunyata Sigma Digital and Interconnects
I have both the Sigma Digital (well two of those) as well as Sigma interconnects in my rig (Dac > Pre > AMP).I upgraded from Shunyata Anaconda in all cases, including power, which is now all Sigma as well. (I still like the Anacondas and hav...
Should I adjust my NAD M51 DAC volume north of 0 dB with this setup?
I have an M51 in one of my systems and it is a great DAC IMO.I set it at -20db or so (I do this also with another DAC in my big rig.) Both DACs claim no loss of data at that setting. For me, it is about who provides the gain and how much. It sounds...
REL Subwoofer: Speakon or RCA?
I’ve had Rels for many years. Speakon sounds best to me for music.
