PS Audio GCPH Phono Preamp
I also had one for a while with a Dynavector 10 x 5 and I enjoyed it very much. Was very quiet. I ran it directly to my amp instead of line level to my pre amp as the GCPH has an adjustable gain knob. For me anyway, at line level it was ordinary. ...
Phono Preamp price range $2000-$4000
Anyone have thoughts on the Whest Audio PS.30RDT or Pass Labs XP-15? Both are just under the $4000 threshold.
What great speakers can buy direct?
I know of 3, I'm sure there are more, that offer between 30-60 day in home trial.Studio ElectricVon Schweikert AudioSeleh AudioSome will charge a re-stocking fee if you return them.
VTA adjustment for REGA
I used to own the same table/cart combo and had exactly the same experience. Consider the black delrin platter from Groovetracer. I found the sound much fuller than with the stock glass platter.
To port or not to port
Thanks for all your responses. After much fiddling I found that the sub was too close to the mains. After making some room and moving it to a corner I seem to have found the sweet spot.
upgrading the analog setup
I went from a Rega P5 with the 20X2L to a VPI Classic one with the same cart. The VPI arm is well suited to Dynavectors and the ability to fine tune the VTA and azimuth puts it another league over the Rega IMO.
Bi-wire: is it worth it?
I agree with Tls49. In my case, replacing the stock jumpers with higher quality ones improved things more than bi wiring.
To port or not to port
Lowrider,Thanks for your response. I'm not using any room treatments, that would be a last resort. The speakers are about 3 feet from the wall and they're sitting on 23 inch custom made oak stands which aren't detached from the carpet with spikes ...
VPI tone arm question.
At first I was reluctant to get a Classic One because the uni-pivot made me nervous. After setting it up with a Lyra Delos I wasn't all that impressed until I started adjusting that big 'ole azimuth ring. After I got the azimuth set right I was am...
Amp suggestions
Thanks for all your input, The PSB,s are the Synchrony One B, Parasound P7 pre-amp, Rythmik Audio F-112 sub, VPI Classic One Turntable w/ Lyra Delos and Fosgate Signature pre-amp.Although the PSB's are bookshelf, I'm satisfied with the mids , perc...
Cartridge suggestions
In that price range..A Dynavector 10x5. I had the AT, was too bright for my taste. I've read that Grados are a good match for that arm as well.
Anti-Static Brush
Another vote for the Mapleshade brush. String is right, it doesn't look like much but it removes static better than anything I've tried. I read somewhere that the grounding cord on the "Big Brush" isn't actually grounded to anything.
Cartridge advice Classic I from BRAZIL
No problem....The gain of the phono inputs on the pre amp is 40 db. only. All the other inputs for a CD Player, tape player etc are 28 db. So you only have 40db available for the turntable/cartridge.
Cartridge advice Classic I from BRAZIL
I'm pretty sure , and someone can correct me if I'm wrong, the phono stage gain on the CR is 40 db. Other source components CD, etc. are 28 db. With that in mind I'd recommend a Dynavector 10x5. It's within your budget ($450.00) and is high output...
Remember the year and first vynil you ever bought?
1878, "Mary had a Little Lamb"- Tom Edison. Still waiting for aluminum foil/cylinder re-issues, I need a copy of The White Album in yet another format.
