DAC measurements explained?
@elizabeth All modern CD systems have error detection/correction, no real difference between a modern one you buy from Walmart and a $20,000 one in this regard. DACs deal with jitter, they aren’t making up for data error like CD players can.
DAC measurements explained?
They use an audio analyzer, Audio Percision is a popular one, Stereophile measurements always start off stating what gear they used. And the ones used can be $25,000 to $50,000 and higher, it is not cheap to create a piece of test gear that can be...
AudioControl receiver vs separates
Of course a single unit can sound better than separates, given that the quality of the single unit is better. However, what sucks with separates for home theater is many do not support modern formats. I see processors still being sold that are $1...
Need Advice & Need It Fast
@tweak1   https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/review-and-measurements-of-wireworld-star...  If your system has a lot of mains leakage (harmonics of 60Hz for Americans), then the WireWorld does perform better than generic cab...
Small drivers vs big drivers
There is not a 9” on the planet that can go down to 18Hz, so don’t know where you got that. Besides just driver and cabinet size, driver xmax is important, that’s literally how much movement the driver can do, the more it can move back and forth,...

Class D from the likes of Hypex and ICE are magnitudes better than those of yesterday (PS Audio uses ICE and ATI uses Hypex).  What is your budget and listening distance? The Nova is a solid performer.
One Amp To ‘Rule’ Them All....
Power amplifier or integrated amplifier?    For a power amplifier, in regards to total transarency, the Benchmark AHB2 is hard to beat (though an ATI amp using  Hypex may give it a run for its money). Maybe you aren’t after transparency, but I’d r...
Speaker help
Agree, room treatment (when placed correctly) does wonders.
Looking for a feature-rich 2-channel integrated that can drive 2-ohm loads
MartinLogan electrostatic speakers are only 2ohm in the upper treble, they are usually around 6ohm elsewhere. 2ohm in the treble is not a difficult load, even the Denon can handle it. The quality of the wattage of the 8500 is likely the same, it ...

Am I deaf?
Oppo has very good DACs, so you aren’t deaf, a cream of the crop $200 DAC and cream of the crop $20,000 DAC sound more similar than you might believe.
Question About DACs
@rlb61  In regards to your inquiry, newer chips are much better. A state of the art DAC from 10yr ago is similar to a $100 DAC from Topping/Schiit/etc.
Question About DACs
@joshfilm  I was at the Florida Audio Expo last week, heard everything from the Vanatoo One Encrores to the KEF Blade 2’s, whatever Wilson model was there, and the Von Schweiker VR-55’s. And from decently priced amps to >100W Class-A monoblocks...
Does my amp have enough juice to power my speakers?
84dB sensitivity needs power. To do some math: Placing it in-room would lead to about a 2dB boost (3dB for speakers with deeper bass), making it 86dB. If you sit 12ft away, that’s about a 7dB loss, so now it’s 79dB. If you wanted peaks of 100dB,...
DAC recommendation with tube preamp
Most all solid state DACs won’t alter bass nor decay. Soundstage width issues could be channel matching and/or crosstalk. The Benchmark, Chord, and PS Audio ones would be excellent. the Benchmark and Chord are awesome, I just really dislike thei...
