Modifications to improve gain of ASL mini phono. If the phono stage is noisy, the ground wire may be not firmly connected to the tube housing. I opened the 2 tubes casing and solder the ground wire to its screw attaching it to the circuit board and the housing. This ground wire is not firmly att...
Home brew cleaning solution When you apply the cleaning solution with a brush, do you start from the outer edge of the record or does it matter? It works best for me if I start from the outer edge of the record.
Modifications to improve gain of ASL mini phono. I think there may be trade off for gain improvement, i.e. noise, microphonic. My preamp doesn't have much noise at 12 O'clock. I wonder if anyone compare the old and new version of the ASL mini phono?
ASL Mini Phono I use Mullard 12AX7 on my mini phono and it improves the bass a little. I use Shure V15 type V cartridge and my Sonic Frontiers SFL-2 preamp volume is at 12 O'clock level. I wonder if there are mods to improve gain on the mini phono.
help me pick a phono preamp. I like tube Antique Sound Lab phono preamp for $250.
VPI HW-19 Jr. Upgrade I started out with an HW-19 plinth and MkIII bearing and platter. Then Aries 2 platter and bearing with more sound improvement. Then I built 2" cocobolo plinth with lead load to replace the HW-19 plinth which move my TT into a whole different leve...
Which sub $1k phono stage to go? I have the ASL mini phono and it sounds smooth and natural music with Mullard 12AX7 tubes. The bass is not punchy and fast as SS phono stage but the mid and high have more details. I owned EAR 834P, Sonic Frontiers SP-1, and various SS broadcastin...
VTF Scale I placed a magnet next to my 120Z and I felt no magnetic force. I hand held the scale at the platter level to check for the VTF. I have to keep my hand steady enough so the scale remains at 0.0 gr.
VTF Scale Check out this post on electronic VTF scale. These are more accurate and easier to use.http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?eanlg&1087227679&read&3&4&
Review: Pete Riggle Audio VTAF I think the brassy VTAF and the floating Rega arm improved the mids and highs. If you installed the nut back to the arm attaching it to the armboard, the mids and highs will be reduced but they are still present. The tonearm nut grounds the tonear...
Has anyone used electronic pocket scales for VTF? It is suspended by the fishing string which stablelizes the azimuth like in the Well Tempered arm. The ball bearing is glued to the armtube and fitted into the hole of the cylinder (button). This arm employes the same principle as the Shroder Refe...
Has anyone used electronic pocket scales for VTF? I substituted the steel arm tube from an Audio Technica broadcast tonearm with a graphite golf driver shaft. Note the lead strip covering the vertical movement pivot bearings, it acts as a damping device. The anti skating string device works well ...
Has anyone used electronic pocket scales for VTF? I like to retract my statement about the VFT at various heights. I use a homemade 14 inch carbon fiber tonearm (measuring from pivot to stylus tip) with Shure type III cartridge. My scale didn't detect the VTF changes when I varied the scale's alt...
Has anyone used electronic pocket scales for VTF? The 120 Z model is non magnetic. The VTF differences at various heights are due to the anti skating device. When the height changes, it either pulls the anti skating string or spring up or down hence changes the VTF. The tonearm pivoting should no...
Has anyone used electronic pocket scales for VTF? Thanks for all of the responds. I bought the 120 Z model. I tried the scale at different heights by placing it on and off the platter and still got the same weight reading. The VTF should be the same at about +,- 2 inch from the platter height bec... |
