Cones for the computer?
Mine sits on a small bicycle inner tube. Don't know why it sounds better but it does. I've had it on there for a couple years.
budget USB S/PDIF converter?
I just bought a HLLY MMK-I 24bit/96k USB to SPDIF off eBay for $70 or so. It works amazingly well. Add a 10v dc wall wart and it kicks it up another notch. Remove the power feed leg in the USB cable altogether and it sounds even better. It doesn't...
What's next after Dynavector 20XL?
You say you would like to improve on tracking ability, but the cart you have, (Dynavector 20XL with Microridge Stylus) is pretty much the ultimate in stylus tip technology. It doesn't get any better. What that means is, you are now hearing your ta...
Is Ortofon "Salsa MC better than Dynavector 10X5?
Your Dynavector has not lost any sound quality, it should just be starting to sound great at 150 hours. Make sure your stylus remains clean and for that use the Magic Eraser to remove any caked-on bits that kill the sound. In terms of your specifi...
Benz cartridge phase?
You sell some pretty amazing-looking products. I don't think I would buy a preamp anymore unless it had a polarity switch like yours.
Benz cartridge phase?
My Glider outputs the same polarity as my Shure and AT OC9ML II when connected as directed. My Denon DL103 outputs the opposite polarity when hooked up according to the manufacturer's directions. My Krell integrated amp outputs opposite polarity t...
Have digital players improved
I have put a lot of time and expense into my digital, and it sounds really nice and musical. Better than I ever thought digital would ever sound. If I didn't have records, I would probably think it sounds as good as it gets. That being said, my vin...
Vinyl. Is it me? the producer? cartridge? Record?
I would say if only 3 percent of your records "knock your socks off" then whatever your system is putting out, it bears little relation to what the folks were hearing when they made those records. I have found that as my setup skills and system ha...
Why CD players will never be dead
I still buy cds both new and used. (The new Impulse 2-on-1s are excellent and cheap.) I only handle them long enough to rip them to disk and then I file them away in my storage room. I find the sound is better off hard disk than any of my 3 player...
Is ripping from a laptop as good as a desktop?
Who is to say which machine would have the "poorer" drive, the laptop or the desktop? I have a couple Thinkpads that have very nice cd drives that I have used with Exact Audio Copy to make very nice rips.
MHDT Havana owners.....question
I first read about those tubes from a guy on Head-Fi. In the big long thread on the Havana over there, he had this posting:"But I want to tell you about a tube I just got in the mail a couple of days ago. I am listening to it at this very moment. ...
MHDT Havana owners.....question
Mine came with the GE JAN 5670W tube. I found it quite nice and relaxed. I then tried a Tung Sol 2C51 and it is much more precise and accurate. Not "tubey" at all. I recently bought some Russian 6N3PE (6H3NE) tubes for very cheap ($1.25 each) and ...
Has anyone experimented with switching the Havana
Yes, it is not the chip model that changes. It is the grade of the same chip. The ones in mine originally were "L" grade. They can be bettered by the "J" grade and the best is the "K" grade. They are the same chip but when they are made they are t...
Has anyone experimented with switching the Havana
I did mine as well. It was a really solid improvement. Gives a better sense of resolution and just a better overall soundstage. For sure it would be one of those things that you don't notice until you do it, and then you can't go back after you do...
TECHNICS SL1200 MKII.......THE REAL FACTS
Filling an arm with cotton and then covering it with shrinkwrap does not sound like something I would want to do to any arm. Are you sure this helps the sound? I would think its a good way to kill the life and depth out of the music.
