Do you need a pre-amp with a digital front-end?
Why not go with powered speakers and skip the speaker wire?
Good cheap anti-static spray?
I may give the Endust a try.I have read about people going to the extreme as to take their covers off their electronics and wipe the inside with static guards, including their cables, connectors, ect.I'm not going to that extreme but, I think I'll...
Mid-Fi ICs - BJC vs. Audioquest Sidewinder
When upgrading my ic's recently (more expensive than you are looking for) I ran across a pair of used Transparent "the link" ic's ($40/shipped).I have to say they sound pretty good for the money. There is alot of good ic's for your price range if y...
Crystal Cable - Have you heard or compared them?
There was an article in Stereophile on the founder of Crystal Cable. It was indeed the wife of the owner (I believe) of Siltech cables, and she also started the Crystal line of speakers that are VERY expensive, and feature tempered glass enclosures....
best AVR for dual use in HT/music?
I agree with the HK.I have had an AVR 300 for 15 yrs.I use it in a bedroom, and it makes for a decent sounding preamp also (which is how I use it).I am not recommending this model, but HK's seem to go on for ever.Better build quality?Long term rel...
DAC with preamp and remote
Might do a search for the Matrix Dac Pre, its from China but I have read some good things about.Way below your price range though, $319 shipped on fleabay. And I think it offers USB.I have not heard it personally, but theres alot about it on the web.
Adcom Vs Rotel
I have found in the past, that when I settle on an amp that is not the one I want, as soon as I buy it, the one I want pops up for sale at a real bargain! My luck.Take your time, research, wait on the right one, and you will be happier than buying ...
Which CD Players do not require a Pre Amp ?
Some of the Adcom players had that feature also, can't remember model #'s though.
Sealing ported enclosure to reduce boom
I agree with the "bad idea".I have tried it mulitple times over the years, and agree with Knownothing.Speakers are designed for a purpose, either ported or sealed. You really won't get the both of best worlds in home audio anyway (alot of full rang...
How to install Tandberg preamp to Denon 3801AVR
Your Denon would have to have main in preamp inputs. If it does, you would simply connect the preouts from you Tandberg (1 pr. of rca's), to the main in on your Denon. This should use the amps only on the denon, and allow the Tandberg to be used as ...
Using 2 Subwoofers
One of the advantages of using 2 subs is you can get away with smaller drivers.A room that sounds good with a big 12, or 15" sounds even better with 2-10" subs. You pick up alittle speed, and your room does not have to compensate for such nodes (tr...
Acoustic Damping Behind Speakers?
A good cheap way out is to place 3 of the acoustic ceiling tiles (2x4') available at Lowes/Home depot spread evenly on wall behind your speakers.I did this for a friend of mine a couple of years ago, and he still has them up.I think they stop refl...
The Hub: News, events, gossip - Sound by Singer to close
It is really sad, and a sign of things to come.I think eventually, all sales will be web based, and you will not be able to listen to any products, just read what the magazines want you to buy. There were several mid-high end stores locally, but al...
What Speakers to use in a bar/restaurant environment
Heard a bose commercial system the other day while I was at a church.Pretty awsome. The local red lobster here has posh speakers with passive subs flown from the ceilings, and I have to admit, it sounds pretty good.I have been to many bars & cl...
