aluminum platter vs Acrylic not what I thought
Arguably, the best record mat is: http://hifigem.com/rcc-record-mat.htmlby George Merrill. Not expensive and accomplishes the task. Don't worry what it is sitting on.
For tube sound, which is more important: preamp or power amp?
Many meaningful contributions presented.  In my experience I have discovered that finding a great preamplifier a daunting task. Let's face it, if your preamplifier can't resolve the micro-details/dynamics along with the other obvious positive qual...
Worked Backwards and Would like to Hear Suggestions on Speakers
Don't discount Wilson-Benesch among the other suggestions. Check them out, as they receive many top awards at shows and quite a few "jaw-dropping" responses in my listening room!
Ayre KX-R or PS Audio BHK Pre
I sincerely hope you are a satisfied. Give it a 100 hours or so before you come to any conclusions. Happy listening!
Ayre KX-R or PS Audio BHK Pre
IMO that is a very limited selection. You would do very well to check out the Sutherland Engineering N1 preamplifier. After I auditioned the Ayre in my system I purchased the N1. Check it out, you won't be disappointed.
Switching to solid state amp?
A couple of thoughts:SS amps have some realistic advantages. None are created equally and specifications are really no indicator of sound quality or sound characteristics. Much of the time the Loudspeakers that are mated with a particular amplifie...

Hum problem
Couple of tips:1) Try using only 1 outlet for all of your components. Obviously using a multiple outlet strip that can accommodate everything and is rated at 20 amps. Insure that the outlet is dedicated if you can.2) Experiment floating the ground...
Preamp
The 4 preamplifiers that you mention may well be satisfactory. I urge you to explore the Sutherland Engineering model N1 preamplifier. I have been living with mine since January. I wouldn't let it out of my system for anything. It simply gets out ...

Why do turntables sound different?
"danvignau"Are you really serious?  Placing everything but the speakers in a different room is ludicrous and extremely impractical.  Actually, I am sorry to have even responded.  Please relocate to planet earth.
Downsizing Speakers in Main Listening Room - Your Feedback on Some options
I have recently converted my 2 channel system to a smallish room.  I selected the 2-way Wilson-Benesch model Vertex.  Using a great preamp and mono blocks.  Absolutely ridiculous at any listening level.Good luck!
Best monoblock amps for $2000 used
Enthusiastically recommend the mono blocks by Electron Kinetics, now EKSC Eagle. The company was originally conceived by John Iverson after the breakup of Electro Research.  The model 400's were the first mono blocks and many others have followed....
Why do turntables sound different?
Responding to "james1969"In terms of TT Bearing Oil, no they are not created equal and I would highly recommend the proprietary bearing oil that George Merrill has developed.  You and other readers may wish to consult the following:   Turntable De...
