Is pre-amp getting killed?
Who said anything about a passive preamp?
Is pre-amp getting killed?
With a properly designed DAC there is really no need for a pre-amp unlesss you need a phono stage, or have a lot of source devices. My DAC has multiple digital inputs and a single analog input. The output of the DAC is touted directly to the ampli...

Daniel Barenboim, "On My New Piano"Thank you @twoleftears for posting the only Classical entry in the last two pages, and for posting such a good recording. The low end on that piano is impressive. I loved the Beethoven.
The Best Piano Works of the 20th Century
I wouldn’t call Shostakovich’s Trio #2 for Violin, Cello, and Piano, a piece for piano, but it is certainly one of the great masterpieces of the 20th Century.

Stillpoints - snake oil?
Of course they are snake oil.  Transistors and ICs are not microphonic, and the laser in a CD player is servo-controlled to read accurately (not to mention that the encoding of the data stream on a CD includes error correction). There is some logi...
The Truth about Modern Class D
@1graber2 But that will be more of a commercial product in the future than an audiophile product.... Severely limited in many respects. Sound. Precision. Pray. Musicality. Power. Nuance. There is no reason an active speaker cannot be an audiophile...
My 1976 Recordings
I’m glad you appreciate them. It’s better more than one person can listen to them.
The Truth about Modern Class D
Which do you think would sound better:a really excellent class A/B amp hooked up with super expensive speaker cables to a classic speaker with a passive crossover network or, three very good class D amps hooked directly to three excellent drivers ...

I have Saint-Saen's 3rd on Telarc, Eugene Ormandy and Philadelphia Orchestra. I'll listen to it tonight and see how it sounds. That is a very good recording with a smashing crescendo at the end. Enjoy.
