best sounding small speakers
I have to give the nod as well to the ProAc 1SC's - I have heard them with some Audio Research tube amps doing the heavy lifting, and I could not believe the music that these little buggers put out. And mind you, it was on a very demanding classic...
Carver Vs. Adcom
Have heard many Carver and Adcoms, and curently use a GFA6000 in my HT system. Sounds very good, and has not missed a day's service. Consider this a strong vote for Adcom, of the two. There are other good mid-priced amps worth considering. For und...
Which speaker is the master of IMAGING ????
The Dynaudio Evidence playing Vangelis' Opera Sauvage had notes floating in the room like soap bubbles. Not my all time favorite speakers, but the imaging was killer with the right source. As it should be for their megabuck flagship.
Speakers in the range of $3 to $4.5k per pair?
I heard an extensive demo a while back of the ProAc D15, and they were quite impressive....worth an audition IMO.
Do I need a phono amp if I own an integrated amp?
You will not need a separate phono stage if your integrated has one built in(see above) but it is a very low cost way to improve your sound, as most built in stages are just so-so. From an excellent Bellari phono pre for about $ 140 used, up to th...

Cartridge for my Linn Sondek LP12?
Thank you one and all... I always suyspected the arm was less than stellar. I may keep an eye open for a good deal on a used arm as well as cartfidge.
Cartridge for my Linn Sondek LP12?
Thank you...my budget for this cartridge is not in the Koetsu category. If the Gold is a good match, I may pick one up.BTW, I do not have a stepup transformer at present, so sufficient output is a must.
Match for proac & cary sei300
While I have not heard your exact setup,I have heard a ProAc D15/Manley Stingray/Audio Note combination that was very strong. If you can find a good used one, you might want to consider it, as it allowed the music to come through without any notic...
Review: Vandersteen 1b Speaker
Thanks, Sek - Ihave been contemplating replacing the NAD with either a tube integrated(Stingray,Aronov e.g.) or a stronger SS amp, as long as it is reasonably euphonic, perhaps a Creek,Musical Fidelity or whatever comes along at a steal.Having the...
Review: Adcom GFA-6000 Multichamp
Jank nails it on the head - judge the Adcom on what is was designed for and it comes off as a winner. Thanks for the feedback.
Need Suggestions on CD Player under 1k
I second the used route. You might try and find a used Audio Note CD2 for example.
750 or so -- B&W 602, Vandersteen 1C, or...?
You may want to grab these if you are thinking of 1C's, and put the other $ 400 towards more discs. Just a thought. It seems a lot more 2's come up for sale than 1B's. H-m-m.
750 or so -- B&W 602, Vandersteen 1C, or...?
Pete - I made a similar decision many(ten) years ago. Suffice it to say, that while I liked B & W's speaks, and thought they were slightly more convincing on brass, with a fuller tonal balance, I went with(and still own) the Vandersteen 1B's, ...
Good Stuff Cheap
Speaking of possible overachievers, has anyone heard the Fluance speakers, specifically the SM938, which are going new for $ 270/pair on audioreview? With a 10" side-firing woofer, two 4" mids, and the ubiquitous 1" silk dome, they look like inter...
