Spatial Audio M3 Tubo S open baffle speaker review
falconquest, thanks for your efforts with this review.I recently became interested in open baffle speakers as well, specifically the M3 Turbo S and the various PureAudioProject Trio 15 models.  The PAPs are more expensive, even for their least cos...
Is the Acoustic Research Ax Ta ecc Really an overrated Poor mans Turntable?
vinny, don't know why you have a burr under your saddle about the AR tables?  But I wonder how much you know about them and if you ever even heard one in a decent playback system? The AR-XA was introduced in 1961.  That was a time dominated by rim-...
Is the Acoustic Research Ax Ta ecc Really an overrated Poor mans Turntable?
bdp, I think the Mayware Formula 4 was a popular replacement for the standard AR arm.  Likely because it was also light weight (no impact on the suspension if done properly) and a good performer.I changed to that arm too with the help of a buddy w...
Is the Acoustic Research Ax Ta ecc Really an overrated Poor mans Turntable?
I've restored a couple of these for friends.  Also owned them new back in the day.  When set up properly they can still provide a rewarding musical experience. But exactly who "overrated" them?
Why don't we make a list of best pressings ?
richopp, yes the Sheffield LPs are special. But Mayorga's recordings won't be up to everyone's taste.  I consider them "smaltz" but YMMV.Fortunately there are others, such as the Dave Grusin, Tower of Power, "I've Got The Music In Me", and a few mo...
Miss my Dunlavy Speakers, Were to go...
I've now been in this audio hobby for decades.  I owned Duntech Princess speakers for 19 years, by far the longest of any other component over all this time.  The only reason I sold them was due to their size and a pending move. For those not famil...
Upgrade from Technics SP25
gotog, chakster has mentioned the SP-20 a few times now.  It may be a fine motor unit, I've never seen one.  But depending on where you live, I believe they are very rare in the US.  Also you don't find the backup such as a service manual at Vinyl...
Upgrade from Technics SP25
gotog, this is not to suggest you upgrade your table, Raul and chakster have given good advice. However if you are not aware I thought you might like knowing more about your table.  Technics offered three SP model tables at different price points. ...

acman, you post many links which I enjoy.  But that Gene Ammons just hit a special "groove".  I loved it.
Mono Cartridge Recommendations
peter, the answers to many of your questions will depend on the specific monos you listen to.I’ve read that no mono cutter heads have been available/in use since around 1990. So all of the newer mono reissues were made with a stereo cutter head. F...

There has been a bit of discussion on this site about the value of new artists and current direction for jazz.I just received this link from a friend.  It is a PBS special which addresses this issue.  It runs nearly 1 1/2 hours so I've not watched...

One of schubert's links led me to this.I think if Count was any more relaxed he'd doze off.  Still, it swings pretty well - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCx5_-P4EH4

First off, I noticed o10 has recent comments on other A'gon sites so know he is current, even if not posting much here.  But I feel a tip'o'the'hat is due his way for beginning this discussion.  It is approaching 1.5 MILLION views and has over 15,...
