Ortofon SPU with 12 inch Jelco arm?
Добрый день chakster, maybe one reason for our different thought is, that you usetubes in your system and my rig is purely silicone based ;-)I had the case that an older and worn record sounded better witha sharp stylus cartridge. But it was mo...
Ortofon SPU with 12 inch Jelco arm?
Hi chakster, this mainly has nothing to do with the stylus tip.In my opinion (and many others) the tonally fingerprint of SPUsreally is exceptional fine for older recordings and many new ones. This is a matter of tonality and recording equipment.And...
Recommend which SPU?
Hi dhcod,if you want to get a taste of SPU-ness you should go for theSPU #1E. It gives you a very good impression what that means. The Royal with the replicant 100 stylus is in our opinion (a friendof mine owns one) neither fish nor fowl. It has no...
Ortofon SPU with 12 inch Jelco arm?
A friend and me have compared a couple of different SPUsin the last couple of months.First the match of a Jelco 12" and a SPU with G-shell is a verygood one. This is due to fact that the Jelco is built for a distance(headshell base to diamond tip)...
I have joined in the ZYX Family
Hhhmmm..my ZYX R-1000 Airy 3 SL (4 Ohm) was more sensitive to higherloads. It had a tendency to harshness when loaded with more than320 Ohm.My ZYX 4D XH (8 Ohm) was more flexible and played even with47 kOhm phantastic.
I have joined in the ZYX Family
Hi artemus, you should definitively try the 47k as well. That rocks! But to be honest my 4D was playing most of the time with 320 Ohm.
Worthy alternatives to the Aria for my RP8/Apheta 2?
If you think about Ayre I would recommend the Ayre P-5xe... anreally excellent phono stage.Just heard it two days ago in comparison with other (more expensive)phono stages.
Lyra Etna Versus Kleos
I had now a couple of chances to hear a direct shoot out(performed by the German Lyra importer) of the Kleos, Etna and Atlas.Last time it were the 3 SL versions. All cartridges were mounted in the same tonearms and workedwith the same phono stage.W...
Cartridge Advice Please
The tonearm of the Marantz is not that heavy. So I would recommend the Hana SL as a very good match forthis Clearaudio-OEM turntable.
Why do turntables sound different?
This weekend Avid was again playing three different turntables. The sound system was of course constantly the same. They used the three models Diva, Sequel and Acutus. All wereequipped with SME IV tonearms and Nagaoka MP-150 cartridges. After that ev...
Why do turntables sound different?
Yesterday I saw the Avid contest again.Three turntables (Diva II, Sequel, Acutus) same tonearm (SME IV)and cartridge (Nagaoka MP-150).It was astonishing agein to here such really significant differences inperformance.
Why do turntables sound different?
@nkonorIf I remember right, he showed the Ingenium, the Volvere and theAcutus. Each step brought more "quietness" and "three-dimensionality".By the way... just next weekend the AAA-Forum-show will againtake place in Krefeld / Germany. So if you wan...
Why do turntables sound different?
I do not know why, but I have heard that it is like this.Last year I spent a while in a room at the AAA-Forum in Germanywhere Conrad Mas from Avid Audio made an interesting test. There were three of his turntables equipped with the same tonearm-car...

Hi chadlesko,if I do not want to change most of my rig I do it as follows:1. filter which cartridges are compatible with my tonearm and phono stage2. which tonality (warm, detailed, spatiality, analytics, ...) I want 3. hear different cartridges a...
