Any experience with DAC/Upsampler?
I have the Audio Logic 2400, and use a Forsell Mk. IV (just updated) transport. I have been very happy with the sound of this combination. I borrowed my dealer's Purcell (dCs) upsampler to see what it could do. After it warmed up, I couldn't live ...
Record cleaner recs?
I'm a big fan of the VPI 16.5, which I bought a number of years ago when I got back into vinyl. It works well, and I think it's worth the extra money over the less expensive cleaners. And Albert is right, prepare to be amazed.
What CD has the best production/sound?
For classical, the Reference Recordings Minnesota Orchestra series, particularly the Bernstein disc, are well recorded and have demonstration sound.
Most achingly-beautiful music
Vaughn Williams Tallis Fantasia; second movement of the Barber violin concerto; tie between the final movement of the Mahler Second ("Ressurection") and the Mahler 9th. And how can I leave out the Faure and Duruffle Requiems? There's a lot more of...
Mozart's Requiem- Best recording on CD
Sugarbrie, that does sound like fun. Any preference as to Levin's version vs. the Sussmayr? Given Telarc's virtues with their other Boston Baroque recordings, it might be worthwhile to pick up, if only for the comparison. Also, I might want our ch...
The BEST system you've ever built !!!!
Amen to that (my wife's influence). Also, the "best" obviously is a personal matter too, based on what you value the most out of your system, your musical tastes, etc.
Mozart's Requiem- Best recording on CD
I too sing in a choir (a good church choir), and I agree with Sugarbrie as to the Scheier performance. Sound is pretty good, and the soloists are top notch. The Boston one that he refers to in his latest is, I think, the Pearlman/Boston Baroque (s...
The BEST system you've ever built !!!!
I agree with most of you out there that our systems as currently configured are somewhere along in the journey to an ultimate goal, which I certainly won't reach till I get the New York Philharmonic or the New Jersey Symphony into my living room. ...
Well Tempered TT and Power Plant 300
I would advise against putting both digital and analog gear in the P300 (or the same P300, actually). My experience is that you try to isolate your digital components from the rest of the system, because they throw a lot of hash back into your pow...
Well Tempered TT and Power Plant 300
I think that you could only use the PS Audio at the 60 hz setting, or, if you get the Multiwave option, the PS2 setting (which is better, in my view, than the 90 hz setting), because of the turntable motor. That eliminates some of the options you ...
PS Audio Multiwave
I find Rbianconi's description to be spot on as to the differences that the Multiwave makes. I use the PS2 setting, as I had transformer buzz problems running equipment at 90 hz and I have an air pump (Forsell transport) plugged in through the P30...
A newbie deciding on a transport/DAC
Following up on Hifinut604, I've heard the Pioneer with the MSB and can attest that it works very well. I agree with his other suggestions as well. My two cents is to get the upsampling upgrade on the MSB, as I find that to be a worthwhile additio...
Red Rose Music by Mark Levinson
A friend of mine is in high-end video and did a deal with Red Rose. He fell in love with the entry system and bought it, then had me over for a listen. I'm a tube man (Jadis amps and preamp), so I'm biased, but I think it's a terrific system for t...
