Cardas: Cross vs. Reference and Clear
Thanks, stringreen. As you might guess, I've found Cardas a good match in my system, although I do hear them as being less transparent than some competitors.A friend has been using Cross for years. He recently added a pair of Clear Light.  In dire...
Cardas: Cross vs. Reference and Clear
Thanks, tooblue.  If you recall, what did you like better about Cross?  I have owned Quadlink ICs, and currently have Golden Ref, Neutral Ref, and Golden Presence ICs (sets of each - I'm glutton for punishment, I guess).  Previously owned Neutral ...
what cables lie between cardas neutral and cardas clear reflection?
The thing I didn’t like about them was how they seemed to enhance brass instrumentation. The thing you didn’t like about Synergystic? In the old "Reference" line, Golden Presence was between Neutral Ref and Gold Ref (Gold Ref being replaced by Cle...
Moving up from Cardas Clear
Old post, but there are a few reviews out there comparing Clear to AudioQuest Wild, with Wild regarded as slightly better at twice the cost. AQ would likely have a little more speed and excitement, though more dynamic may depend on how much you pe...
Upgrading power cord.. proven upgrade? or crap?
My first experience with aftermarket PCs was a PS Audio Lab II cable that came free when I purchased their HCA-2 power amp. It lowered noise, increased detail, and (most notably) improved bass weight, detail, and slam. I wouldn’t have said the cor...
Cardas Clear Light equivalents
I don’t have experience with the Clear line other than audio shows, so I’m not sure how to compare to the older Cross and Reference lines.Clear Sky is a step down from CCL. The new Parsec also has the Clear technology. From the old Cross line, Quad...
Review: Cardas Golden Reference Interconnect
Updating an old thread here. Irishhound made an assertion that was questioned, but not answered. The assertion was that when mixing Golden Reference and Golden Cross, Ref should not be used on the source component. It Cross on source end, Ref on a...
Krell S300i Volume Control Popping Noise
Thanks. I suppose it could the the power line. I'd have to try another location to verify. I was told early production units had a loose ground, and wondered whether that could impact the volume. A UK forum contributor found the same issue, callin...
Best Pre-Amp/Amp for Focal JMLab electra 920
In solid-state electronics, I should add that Ayre is another excellent choice. Sonically, I'd say it's somewhere between Musical Fidelity and Krell, and about as close as transistors come to a tube-like rendering of space.
Best Pre-Amp/Amp for Focal JMLab electra 920
I have the Electra 915s, and I also listen mostly to classical. These are unusually transparent speakers at the price range, so good equipment and proper toe-in are helpful to avoid sounding hard. I have paired them with Rotel and PS Audio's HCA-2...
Amp for Nautilus 805 - Krell KAV or Classe cap 101
If you're happy with the Musical Fidelity sound, consider bi-amping as a cost-effective option that will maintain the system's sound. I had a pair of A3cr power amps controlled by the A3cr pre driving B&W 602. Though the 602 is clearly not in ...
Krell FPB Owner want to try Tube Amp or Integrated
If *you* are happy with the Krell, then I would not worry about what others say. Furthermore, I have noticed many posts on Krell gear in general, at various forums, criticizing the products as edgy and bright. Indeed, that may have been the case w...
Best Integrated amp for under 4k
Krell KAV 300-iL if you want fast, clean, and transparent. The sound is the result of Krell's use of its current-mode gain topology, trickled down from its FBP line of amps and Current Tunnel preamp, in a now fully-balanced preamp section. Basical...
Best amp to drive B&W N805's
I had good success with Musical Fidelity's original A3cr pre and power combo, though it was driving the much cheaper B&W 602 bookshelves. The Musical Fidelity top-end is smooth and grain-free, which makes it a good match with the metal dome tw...
