using my computer as a music server
There have been some articles in some of the recent issues of British hifi mags, such as HiFi Choice and HiFi plus. In general, it is easier to do this with Macs than with Windows .
FM Radio is dead ....R.I.P
I basically only listen to one FM station, Chicago's WFMT. It is a classical music station. Besides the music, they have ads for local events, concerts , etc. I met my wife thru one of their events, I personally have known one of the personalities...
Denon DCD A100
Thanks Theo. I had bought a Denon Blu Ray from an AGoner because I wanted a Blue Ray that would have quality analog outs for a legacy non HDMI receiver. I am happy with the sound but find the picture to be diss appointing. I am glad that you find ...
CD Recommendation -- EMI Tchaikovsky Selections
You may want to investigate the Beethoven set on Pentatone conducted by Phillip Herreweghe. The orchestra plays modern instruments but is led by a conductor with a real background in the Period performance movement. I have ordered it but it hasn't...
Rachmaninoff Conc 2 Mercury Living Presence
I 've owned the Mercury recording in both vinyl and a High res download. The lp was my into to the piece. I hadn't heard it for years until I recently bought the download. It is enjoyable but I prefer the Richter or the Wild recordings listed by o...
Serious Classical Labels
You don't mention if you are looking for 2 channel or multichannel or what Type of classical music you prefer. Pentatone is terrific for multichannel SACD. The SFS Mahler cycle is outstanding in both SACD and redbook.
CD Recommendation -- EMI Tchaikovsky Selections
I haven't really cottoned to Mariss Jansons as a conductor , but I do have to admit that he frequently benefits from being well recorded.
Transports and jitter
For the hell of it, I tried using a DVD player that my daughter bought at our local drug store for about $30 into my PSAudio Digital Link III DAC. I won't say that is sounded as good as my normal transport ( NAD UniversalPlayer) but it was pretty ...
FLAC On A Mac
Achilles: you had asked about the Marantz NA 7004 player a few months ago on this thread and I just saw it now. I had discussed it on some other threads in the "Digital" forum. It turned that my original model was defective. After obtaining an exc...
Remote DAC connection to Computer -Shoot Me Now
I'd be interested to see if you are able to send files with a Mac. Try and borrow some ones laptop before you purchase the Mac Mini. The OS is the same so that shouldn't matter.
Remote DAC connection to Computer -Shoot Me Now
That would have been my first piece of advice. Try to send files with some kind of a Mac just to make sure it isn't a windows issue. If it is, then youMay need a driver to make it work.
dCS Puccini CD transport noise
I'm reading this thread for the first time, and I am in shock. Given the price of both CDs and Esoteric products, these transports should be dead quiet.
Ground loop hum
How about using some of the various hum busting devices? I've got two different kinds in my 3 systems in my house. They are cheap, do the job, andI have no clue how they work, but they don't seem to cause any sonic degredation.
Is the Squeezebox Touch complicated?
It does work, but like all computer audio, it can be fiddly, not as easy as just popping in a silver disc and hitting the play button. It doesn't do anything that can't be done in other ways. Mainly it provides a nice GUI to access music from vari...
Best 2 Channel SACD with Analog Outs
I really like the Ayre preamp and want to keep it in the 2 channel system. There is a great synergy between it and my DAC for all digital sources and it is great with analog as well. There is a clear difference with the Sony between the HDMI and th...
