Can Luxman 509u drive JBL Ti5000
Keep in mind that the position of the volume knob does not indicate the true power being delivered to the speakers. Those speakers are fairly efficient and your Luxman will have no problem driving them properly.Don't sweat this, sit back and enjoy...
broken psb t6 dilemma
I hate to burst a bubble, but there is almost no way 2 different speakers, even from the same mfgr., are going to match satisfactorily. You need 2 of the same. Time to scour the used sites or buy two new matching speakers...
downloading music versus cd `s quality
Rockanroller, unfortunately you've been fed a load of hype from some folks who should know better. 1st of all, CDs store the digital information of 16 bits at a sample rate of 44.1KHz. Hi-res is generally considered to be 20+ bits (usually 24) at ...
Another UPS Horror Story
One final recommendation - it it is at all feasible, DO NOT SHIP. I have driven up to 500 miles to pickup a piece of gear and found the time and expense well worth it.And for gear like turntables, I simply will not ship at all. If it cannot be pic...
Another UPS Horror Story
Jazzcourier pretty much nailed it - overpack and hope for the best. I have had better experience with FedEx and USPS rather than UPS. If you must use UPS, the UPS Stores are a waste of money, pack it yourself, drop it off at a UPS depot and you wi...
Balanced interconnects and non-differential amps
Ya gotta love Mr. Al, always a cogent, well-reasoned reply. Contact Odyssey for the definitive answer...-RW-
Re: Technics RS-M85 casette deck part needed
As long as the broken glass door doesn't affect performance I wouldn't worry about it. If you decide to upgrade the deck, look for a Tandberg TCD-3014 - These are among the finest cassette decks ever made.My 2nd choice would be a Bang & Olufse...
Dunlavy SC I'v As
You need a tube amp which has a fair bit of current delivery. You might consider a hybrid amp (tubes AND transistors) like the Butler TDB-2250 which has a MOSFET output coupled with tubes. Plenty of power AND current from this amp....-RW-PS: I own...
Can't get Acoustic Zen Adagios to sound smooth
I agree with Jdoris, the problem could quite likely be in the CDs/recordings themselves and NOT your equipment...-RW-
Best High End Audio Manufacturer???
If I had to name one, it would be MBL - their products, across the board, are astonishingly good...
Home Theater Upgrade: Advice Needed
I agree with Dbphd except that there is no reason to spend more money on the Oppo 105D if you will not use it for video processing. The D in 105D stands for Darbee Video Processing...
integrated watts or amp watts
Mesch has giben the most accurate info. so far. I would simply add that it is quite possible to assemble a system comprising separates if you shop carefully. Emotiva offer a very good preamp (XSP-1) and amps of reasonable wattage (70-150 watts per...
Best upgradable system components for under $6K
I hear you, Al, about the Ayre preamps. However, their lowest priced preamp, from what I could see on their website, is right at his stated budget, leaving no money for an amplifier. But I may be wrong about the pricing, please educate me if I am....
Best upgradable system components for under $6K
If your $6k is exclusive of speakers, I would substitute the Oppo BDP-105 player at $1200 for the BDP-103. The 105 has a terrific DAC in it and can actually be used as your preamp as well.I don't think I would change the amps, those XPA-1Ls are ve...
Best upgradable system components for under $6K
If I had $6k to spend on a 2 channel system, Emotiva XSP Balanced preamp mated to some Emotiva XPA1L Class A/AB monoblocks. They have *plenty* of power for almost any speaker and deliver the 1st 30 watts in pure Class A mode. The pre is $999 and e...
