Any avantgarde acoustic owners?
I must agree with Acresverde on all points. I have been thrilled with with my Avantgarde Duo Omega's (Sub225) for over 12 years. I have tried a number of amps and settled on AtmaSphere S30 OTL. In all honesty the first few months of ownership was ...
Highest BUILD quality tube amps?
Atma-Sphere would be my suggestion. Great support even for older models out of production!
PS Audio or Ayre?
No experience with Ayre but I have the PS BHK pre. In my system it is superb and is better than direct connection of my Berkeley Reference DAC to Atmaspere S30 OTL power amp. I was previously very happy with a Bent Audio TVC pre but was intrigued ...
Avant-garde speakers
I agree with czarivey that Avantgade speakers can sound harsh but, in my experience with Duo’s, that will be with the associated equipment rather than the speakers. My Duo’s have sounded awful with a high powered SS amp, very good with an older Ava...
Speaker positioning toe and tilt
I would recommend Get Better Sound by Jim Smith. I have found his book and dvd to be invaluable in setting up a system for best sound. Jim was a dealer/distributor for Avantgarde speakers and achived many Best Sound in Show awards.
Pass Labs amps and Avantgarde speakers
I agree that with AG Duo's it is fractions of a Watt that are required in most situations. I have Duo Omegas and using an Atmasphere S30 OTL amp. This is fed directly from a Berkeley Alpha DAC. With the Atmasphere you can remove the driver tubes t...
Specific question for BADA USB converter users.
hi Asindc, I have used Wireworld Starlight at 1.5m and now using an Atlas cable at 0.5mI prefer the 0.5m cable but it's not a massive difference.I've been getting much more significant improvements switching from Jriver to JPLAY
pass labs xa30 to valve amplifier.
Hi James, I am in the UK and have been using a TVC control with the Atmasphere S30Mk3 with Avantgarde Duo's for about 4 years. I have had a (Chineese) tube fail - there was a loud pop but the amp and speaker were not damaged. I would now have abso...
Experiences on Tom Evans phono stage ?
I am using a Dynavestor XV1-S. The upgrade certainly gives more detail and I wouldn't worry about making old/poor recordings sound worse. What seems to happen is that it gets more information off of the record, particualrly effective is retrieval ...
Experiences on Tom Evans phono stage ?
Hi Nolitan, I am in the UK and the upgrade cost me a total of about 800 GB pounds say $1300. There were two things that Tom did:1) upgrade to SRX - this is the thing to go for, less noise and even more detail/music2) I had the dip switches fitted ...
Experiences on Tom Evans phono stage ?
I have a TE Groove Plus and had it modded to SRX. I can't really fault it and it is happily driving a BENT Audio TVC controller. I agree with Stltrains - it is very quiet and is able to create a really engaging musical experience.
Atma-Sphere S-30 MK3
I have the S30 mk3 OTL amp with the upgrade vcap and resistors. The break-in period for me lasted only a couple of days. I loaned the amp from a dealer and for the first day it really didn't gel and I was very close to handing it back. However, da...
Power Cord for PS Audio Power Plant Premier?
I have a PPP and have been using stock power cords. I'm not particularly knowledgeable or interested in power cords but willing to take advice from others. I was looking at the Kimber Palladium power cord but I've now seen a glowing review of the ...
Change to Horns or stay Dynamic
I switched from dynamic speakers to Avantgarde Duo Omega horns. These are obviously not full range horns but the midrange clarity, detail and imaging are fantastic. I also feel that the bass is very good and well integrated so long as the level is...
Dynavector XV-1s set up
Mine is also now tracking at 1.9g on SME V with about 1 on the anti-skate. Loading at 100 ohm. I have been experimenting with VTA and have settled with the rear of the arm raised up - interested to hear what others have found with VTA??This cartri...
