Good CD Player under $800.00 used If you can stretch your budget I would think about the Sony XA5400ES. They can be had used for between $900-$1000 and new for between $1100-$1200. I too had a CAL Icon MK2 and like you said it sounded very good. When I upgraded to the Sony the dif...
Zu Omen or Tekton Lore I have had my Lores since October. Eric was very accommodating. I needed them shipped so they would arrive on a certain day and he went the extra mile to make sure it would happen. They are very easy to drive. I'm using a restored 30 watt vintage ...
Sony SACD 5400 ES: how to get it in standby ? Metralla. I've tried it both ways. Held the power button down for a split second and held the power button down for a few seconds and I got exactly the same results. The standby message flashes for a few seconds and then the unit clicks off. Is it...
Sony SACD 5400 ES: how to get it in standby ? As far as I can tell the only way to completely turn off the unit is to pull the plug. The on/off button on the remote and the player puts the unit in standby. It doesn't matter how long you hold the button down the unit will click into standby.
Sony 5400 question Yes you can.
I am looking into the Tekton Lore's You might do better if you post on the "High Efficiency Speaker Forum" over at Audio Asylum.
Time Has Come Today-The Chambers Brothers Blind Faith only made one album and "I Feel Free" is not on it. "I Feel Free" is the first song on Cream's first album "Fresh Cream".
pro's and con's of a 4 ohm speaker? The TEKTON 8.1en are 8 ohm speakers. The 8.1t are 4 ohms. 35 watts is more than enough to drive them. Your tube amp won't have a problem driving either of them. If you can use a floor stander you may want to consider the Tekton Lore. I just got a ...
Opinions on these amps? The Gallos are not a difficult load to drive. I'm driving my 3.1's with a pair of 60 watt tube monos and have no trouble in a 22' x 14' room. Unless you're a real headbanger any decent quality 50-60 watt tube amp in a medium size room should be fine.
Room size Actually I have 7' ceilings. The way the room is configured the short wall isn't an option.
Which tubes to replace Threshold SA/1 monos The SA/1's were one of the all time classic amps ever made . Tube or solid state. In my opinion you would be making a big mistake switching to tubes, especially with those speakers. I would keep what you have and enjoy the music.
Gallo 3.1's and amps? I'm driving my 3.1's with a pair of 60 watt tube mono-blocks with no problems. I play a lot of rock and at times it can get pretty loud. If you are a real headbanger you may need a more powerful amp, but tubes will be fine.

Tube preamp output impedance at low frequencies The Quicksilver full pre has an output impedance of 1.5 ohms. It should drive anything out there.
