Curious what people think is the best "value" high end speaker (~5K to 15K)
Monitor Audio PL 200 or 300 II. I just have the lower level standmount PL 100II and they are superb. The others have gotten some rave reviews. Monitor tight, clear, accurate with a treble to die for. I've also heard the standmount Aerial and thoug...
A brief review of 15 high-end speakers on home demo including B&W, Boenicke, Magico,Wilson
Do you live in Switzerland? On their website I can't see any dealers in the U.S.?They look great, btw--love the wood look rather than things that resemble R2D2 with a stiff neck....
Speaker Recommendation: 20K range
Monitor Audio has the PL II series. The 200 and 300 are in your price range. I have the 100s, which are stand mount. They are fab. The 200 and 300 have been very well reviewed. My experience with Monitor speakers has been great...
Whats playing on your system today?
Beethoven piano sonatas 30-31, played by Barenboim and then Kovacevich. Combination of energy, counterpoint and slow, drifting adagios. Masterpieces!
What is your favorite budget audio component?
got the PSB450 sub for 1/2 off=$800. Wow.Never heard bass in anything like that form before. The windows rattle, the floor shakes, and I have it on low volume. Mahler will never be the same again!
Help me narrow down some speaker choices
I'm delighted with Monitor Audio PL 100II--that's the bottom of the line at 6k, and it goes up to 30K in different forms. Great sound all round, very accurate, just the slightest bit of warmth, powerful bass and amazing highs. You also might look ...
Downsizing Speakers in Main Listening Room - Your Feedback on Some options
Monitor audio GX50 were great in a small room, sloping ceilings. Very clear and with decent amp went down fairly well. I heard Aerial 5t and was very impressed--they outshone, to my mind, the Kef reference one and the totem element fire. Very quic...
Greatest Composers of All Time
I guess a few questions in order:Why Stravinsky or Berg or Schonberg? What about opera? Verdi and Puccini? Not a huge output, but what is there is choice: Sibelius.I'm glad I didn't see Schumann, whom I always find 'meh'. But as someone said: it's j...

What are you listening to right now?
Schubert sonatas for violin and piano. Julia Fischer. Not his best known work, to be sure, but charming in a simple, heart-felt Schubert kind of way.
Best sites to download jazz and classical?
I think napster has a good classical collection. Seems better than spotify or pandora or some other things i've looked at.
Ugly vs Gogeous speakers
Certainly tastes differ, but I can't see why anyone would want a speaker whose looks they don't like in their place--any more than they'd like an ugly chair or picture. I personally love the understated elegance of my B/W cm9s. Rosewood and plain ...
Classical fans, I need advice
If you like choral: Bach B Minor Mass is sublime. so is Handel's messiah and the Mozart and Verdi requiums. If you want to feel the emotions, try Brahms--the 2 piano concertos, all four symphonies. And a personal favorite of mine: Sibelius 2nd symp...
If bi-amping is so great, why do some high end speakers not support it?
Really? Monitor audio sells a lot more than that--I think all their high end have 4 binding posts.
