Atma Sphere deserves praise
Agree with Magfan. The level of personal service outlined in the above posts is certainly important but equally important IMO are mfrs that offer upgrades to existing equipment for cost of the work plus a modest fee (the key word being modest. Som...
Best preamp for $1000 or less with remote
Conrad Johnson PFR. Past Stereophile class a component and with good reason.
Windham Hill an audiophile label?
Yes, these recordings in my opinion are "Audiophile" quality (and I have quite a few). The musical content is another matter, however. The last time I listened to any WIndham Hill release had to be at least 20 years ago.
MFSL Gold Little Feat
As someone mentioned above, the MSFL LP version of Waiting for Columbus is tremendous. I would heartedly recommend spending time here or on EBay to try and track down a copy.

"Oh, you're saying someone can stroke a dealer and glean all the info they can, then go buy online..."Where did you get that? What he stated is that thru this site he has become aware of products not available at his location and that others may h...
If I like St. Germain I'll like......
I'm enjoying Thievery Corporation but I wouldn't put them (pure trip-hop) in the same category as St. Germain. I love Cinematic Orchestra and will check out some of the other recommendations.
If I like St. Germain I'll like......
Guys: thanks for the heads up with Cinematic Orchestra. I picked up Motion the other day and love it. Also interested in band called Skalpel. Anyone heard?
Arm for SOTA?
Stanwal: You may want to check out the responses to my thread "Best Arm for SOTA under $1000". In addition to the other suggestions, the Origin arms were also recommended. Good Luck.

And then there's the grunting :)...Like a lot of artists, I just wonder if he's being a little too prolific with releases. I'm fond of the earlier stuff: Solo COncerts (Bremen - Lausanne - sp?), Koln Concert, Eyes of the Heart, etc.. His specialty...
Personal speaker evolution
Ohm Model H's in 1980. Then changed to Nestorovic type 5's 1983. Now using Hales T8's, puchased in 2000. If the economy ever straightens out I will be looking at Verity Sarastro, YG Kipod, Vandersteen Model 7's, and a few others to put on my short...
The best acoustic guitar recordings??
Jorma Kaukonen: "Too Hot to Handle"
Favourite ECM Titles
Maybe this thread should be renamed "the genius of Manfred Eicher" as for a while, he produced all albums under this label. Eicher is a genius for getting the most out of an artist. I agree with the previous comments with respect to Pat Metheny. I...
Anybody heard Stereoknight magnetic preamp?
Agree with Maril555. My initial impressions of the website and product line are favorable but I'm somewhat dismayed that I have to contact a dealer to find out the pricing. Can anyone ballpark what the active preamp would go for?
Time to move on from my old SOTA ?
I have the Star and while most would wax enthusiastically about its sonic merits, I would, if given the chance financially, replace it with a suspensionless table. Quite frankly, I never really found the vacuum to be an asset and more of a pain in...
