Is good customer service about dead?
Talk about good customer service, Salk is in the process of bringing out a way for customers to monitor online the progression of their speaker build through the various stages. This is a win/win, the customers are more informed and it takes away ...
7 Channel Amp
If I had to buy a new multi-channel amp righ now I'd get a d-sonic or Wyred 4 Sound. You can customize them with the power you want in each channel and the small form factor, cool running and light weight appeal to me. Not cheap, but reasonably pr...
home theater processor suggestions?
The Anthem MRX line delivers much of the performance of their dedicated processors at a much lower price point. I use the MRX300 as a pre/pro. No XLR though. Great piece for $1k.
Simple way to play hi-res files
The problem with the Oppo is not the size of the screen, I'm using a 50" plasma. It's the limited browsing options and slow interface. It's so easy to scroll through things with the ipad, add to playlists, see cover art, pull up detailed file info...
What's the oldest piece of gear in your system?
My Vandersteen 2Cs were bought new in 1987 and have been in continuous use until yesterday, when my new Salks arrived. Whichever one of my kids (17 and 21) show the maturity to handle them gets them, although they don't know that yet. I can't bear...
Is good customer service about dead?
I forgot to also mention Vandersteen. I bought my 2Cs in 1987. Every time I've called them with questions, Richard has either answered the phone or I was transferred to him quickly. Another great example of customer service.
Is good customer service about dead?
I'll echo the praise for Salk Sound customer service. After a few email exchanges, I ordered a pair of supercharged song towers and a custom sized supercharged CC. Jim found me a unique veneer, a spalted beeswing makore. He estimated 30-45 days, I...
Simple way to play hi-res files
Oppo only recognizes drives up to 2TB. Trying to browse that many files on the Oppo is very tedious. I just switched to a Squeezebox Touch, works great. The ipad app (ipeng) is very easy to use.
I-Mac for computer audio?
I just started using an imac as a squeezebox server, works great.
Best way to run in your Cable Elevators?
Since it's the effects of gravity that are part of the issue, I take mine for a ride in a zero-gravity plane, I find 30-60 seconds of weightlessness is just about right. Mine were only $7495, so the more expensive ones may require a different para...
The finest Cable Elevators you ever auditioned?
"All I can say is that this cable elevator did things to my system that took my system's breath away"Wow, you have a system that actually breathes? Talk about live music..
Vandersteen 2CI speakers
I have 2Cs, they should produce low enough to not need a sub, but it will depend on your room. You can download the manual on their website, it has detailed information of placement suggestions.
Mini Mac, Sonos and NAS HELP
Sbleam, what in your opinion makes the Sonos system better than Squeezebox? Seems like they are very similar, but the SB can do higher resolution at a lower price point.
Getting Rid of a Ground Loop
Had a similar problem, found that 90% of the hum went away when I put the cable TV input through an isolator. Had to use a 3 to 2 prong cheater plug on my amp to completely get rid of it.
Pioneer S-1EX Loudspeaker
Awesome. Did they give you a trade on your S-2's or did you sell them yourself? I came very close to buying some S2's. Ended up ordering a Salk supercharged songtower (high WAF, smaller footprint than the S2) and a custom CC (no way I was going to...
