Qobuz.
I have both Tidal and Qobuz at the moment. Comparing 24/96 Qobuz and Tidal MQA unfolded to 24/96, both sound good but different. For certain tracks, vocals seem to have more body and are more present on Tidal than Qobuz. For certain tracks, Qobuz ...
DAC recommendation
If streaming Tidal MQA is important, then the Meridian Explorer 2 should be on your list at the $300 and under price point. Just focusing on sound, I am finding MQA a real benefit for streaming hi rez audio.
Should I try to upgrade or scrap it all
I think you should scrap it and get something else. You can do better for around $2000 used. Too many choices. If you like tubes, try Audiomeca, Audio Aero, Cary, Audio Note. From my experience though some of the new digital makes tubes unnecessary.
Aloia's and Power
Just for the archive. I have one Aloia 13.01 driving Apogee Stages with no problems. Sound wonderful. Amp only gets slightly warm. I hear no sense of strain and sounds better in every respect than other 100w, 200w (8 ohms) solid state amps I have ...
Primare A10 or Creek 4330 integrated amplifier
The primare is a really slick piece of industrial design. Sound is quite smooth and musical. No obvious faults. It does require extensive warm-up time, better left on all the time or in standby mode. Always enjoyable. Remote capabilites are wonder...
Advice for new source.
You can get the 963sa for pretty cheap, $340 shipped. Get it modded for $300-$500 and you'll have yourself a very nice player for not much money. There are several places that do these mods and from looking at the parts installed, the results shou...
Audes anyone?
Blues are great speakers. I imagine they might be better than the Jazz reviewed in Stereophile. Funny you should mention that they lack in bass. That is somewhat contrary to my experience. I found the bass quite impressive in quality and quantity ...
Audes' "Blue" Speaker: 2000 Marvel?
These are really great speakers. I am in agreement with all the positive comments on these. I absolutely do not think they sound bright. To my ears they are some of the most neutral speakers I've heard, quite smooth actually. They don't have roman...
Info on the Cary slp90L?
I used to own one of these pre-amps. It's very nice sounding, sweet and full. Try some NOS tubes.
Buy a CD now or wait new technology
Buy a SACD player. SACD is not going away. The SCD 1 is no slouch at redbook or as transport. The new digital formats may coexist, but for different audiences. SACD just plain sounds good.Life is short, your hearing isn't getting any better.
