Source or Amp in audio link?
Tpsonic is correct, but that doesn't lead me to conclude that one should spend more on digital than an amp. IMHO, you'll get a more satisfying system short term, and better value for your money long term, by putting more $ into the amp. Digital de...
I'm thinking of getting into tubes, what do you
I had a SP9-III, later a BAT vk5i, which was much better. Now using a Joule Electra LA-150, like that best of all. I think the more recent ARC preamps outperform the 9. They change models so frequently, that I have a tough time keeping them all st...
I'm thinking of getting into tubes, what do you
Agree w/Tpsonic, but generally accepted wisdom is that ss power amp w/tube preamp is better way to go than the opposite. However, many all tube combos will sound best. The key is the amp/speaker combination. No advice on amps is useful, unless it ...
Maggie 1.6 - Best Amp? Thinking about tubes.
Solid state for tube lovers? Perhaps a Pass Labs single ended amp or a Sunfire amp(those have two sets of outputs; one of them has a tubey flavor to it), these are worth checking out, if you don't want to a pair of room heaters. Sounds like the co...
Is a 14' x 21' room too big for Totem Hawks?
Call Community Audio in Philadelphia and ask John. They are both a Totem & NAD dealer. He is a very honest guy who is a music lover. I heard hawks there driven by Jolida tube integrated, and it was a nice combo in a similar sized room. He had ...

Phono pre-amp problems
If there's a left & right tube in question, flip-flop them and see if the clicking & noise moves to the other side. If so, it's the tube, if not, more serious problem. If the tube complement doesn't allow this, you'll need to try an entire...

Can't say much for his taste in musicians, but he sure knows how to produce an excellent sounding CD(I know-oxymoron!). Some of the best I've heard, right up there with Chesky & Reference Recordings.
Subs that keep pace w/ribbons & electrostatics?
Gradient makes subs that are supposed to work well with Quads. One very well known & respected Vandersteen dealer told me that he thinks the Vandersteen sub is an even better match. Haven't heard it, though.
Maggie 1.6 - Best Amp? Thinking about tubes.
You're going to need something pretty beefy, they're not an easy load. Saw a pair of VTL 225s advertised here yesterday, that would be a sweet match. BAT or Audio Research monoblocks would also be great. It all depends on your budget. Many solid s...
What detergent to clean Zerodust.
Are these two basically the same thing? Thanks,Spencer
Best overall Speakers for $2,500.00 or less, New?
Hoenstly,I don't think it exists. You could spend double that and have a short list of candidates. Used will get you a lot closer to your goal.If you talk to the folks who make 'em most will readily admit that to engineer to that price point, they...
