Need help with ProAc Response OneSC
I haven't heard the Response 1sc but have given the Response 2s a good audition in my system and I own the ProAc Studio 150's. I'd highly recommend the McCormack DNA 0.5 Deluxe I have as a good match at a used price of less than $1,000.
AMP against McCormack
I realize this response is the opposite of what you asked but I had exactly the same combination, McCormack TLC, 0.5 Deluxe and Thiels 2.2's and made a dramatic improvement in the system (to my ears, of course) by replacing the Thiels with ProAc s...
Audio Source amps? Crappy?
Good suggestions above, to which I'd add Rotel for electronics and Markertek for budget wire.
Best Budget HDCD D/A Converter?
The Parasound 1100, 1500 and 1600 DAC's are readily available and very good value.
Small Speakers w/ Full Range Sound
The Proac Studio series, either the 150 (used) or 125, is extremely satisfying in a small, elegant floorstander and they're beautiful, as well.

Your first stereo system

Most detailed speakers in 1K range?
If you can find them, I'd highly recommend a pair of Proac Studio 150's. They were $2300 new and should cost about half that used, though they're rare. Any of the Studio series will give you most of that wonderful Proac sound for less money than t...
Monitor Audio model 3 amp suggestion.
I had a pair of Monitor Audio 14's that worked very well with a McCormack DNA-0.5 Deluxe. The laid-back character of the McCormack electronics seemed to be a very good match for the Monitor Audio's forwardness.
