Turntables
+1 for the Lehmann Black Cube. That's a phono stage that performs drastically ahead of its price point.
Question about how to use Feickert Protractor
Step 3 is a final check. It's not absolutely necessary but serves to corroborate your first two measurements. If steps 1 and 2 are done right, then step 3 should line up automatically. I was having a hard time getting everything kosher when I was ...
No right channel in new cartridge
Call the police? For what criminal or civil charges? This guy's aggro. Let PayPal handle things. They almost always side with buyer.
Lifelong Neil?
I love Neil Peart!
Spatials = Done for now!
Agreed. Shocker how Smith seems to know what he's talking about. I haven;t tried the whole mirror-angle technique, but I take to heart his advice for triangulation, listening height, and speaker pitch. It works no matter what speakers I'm adjustin...
Next step up from the Sumiko FT-3
Hi @johnss!  I'm running a Lehmann Statement Black Cube.
Spatials = Done for now!
@pdreher  You're more than welcome to come by. I'm finely-tuning/learning how to tune the new cartridge and am still amazed by how far apart the speakers need to be according to Jim Smith's .83 ratio!  I'll reach out after the holidays.

the Hana SH or SL; $750 new from many sources. Rave reviews all around. I just installed one and am loving its crispness and clarity aling with its ability to dig out a bottom end.
Next step up from the Sumiko FT-3
I'm shipping my Benz off to get re-tipped and am keeping the FT-3 in the meantime to see how it mates with the Hana SH I got for a replacement. The Hana is 5 grams compared to the Benz's 8.8, but I think the FT-3 should handle that. I also noticed...
The Future of Audio Amplification
To step back into shallower waters here:So much of our world has become increasingly visual and on-demand. Screens proliferate and dominate.  I can say the under-25 generation, having taught them for 20 years, can be even more capricious visually-...
Greatest debut album
Wow. To quote a letter in the latest issue of Stereophile, this thread is, with a few exceptions here and there, a memorial to OWGM - Old White Guy Music.
My first phono preamp
I had one of these for a while and enjoyed it. It's a solid-built little piece that delivers a clean, tube sound. I had the 1st upgrade, but as @noromance said, the biggest difference is going to be upgrading those stock 12ax7 tubes. I used a pair...
Pop Sound in my speakers when driven loud from studio recorded CD sources.
My bad for not reading your earlier post more clearly re: the Cambridge transport.
Pop Sound in my speakers when driven loud from studio recorded CD sources.
Hmmm. Then that shouldn't be the problem.Your drivers are clipping because they're getting too powerful a signal from the DAC in your cd player when they play certain frequencies or ranges. Do you have any other amplification sources you can try f...

The Hales are 86db at 8ohms - that might be a pretty difficult load to drive at high volume for most amplifiers less than 100 watts. The review of them (1998) on Soundstage! had them powered by 200w Pass Labs. he did use a 40w Clayton S-40 tube am...
