Thoughts from THE Show, is $29k the new $10k?
I liked the Venture speakers very much- probably best of show for me. They were also amongst the largest speakers at the show-in the largest room. Not sure which model they were, but their top of the line speaker, and over 100K.I was very intrigue...
Speaker Cover Cloth?
Actually, I did have a large cabinet made, which also included two side compartments just big enough for the speakers. Not ideal soundwise I know...I just had an episode where one of the speakers shattered, and I am speculating that having the spe...
Best tube preamp ever
I would say the Vac Signature Mk IIa is certainly among the best tube amps, and also the one I own. It is the best pre-amp I have heard, and felt it was better than my previous best pre-amp, which was the Mbl 6010D.
WOW; great stuff at THE Show, Newport this weekend
I agree; a lot of solid state that restricted the speakers in many instances. For some of the top speaker lines the rooms were full, but I kept looking around and thinking, is anyone else not hearing a lush or dynamic mid-range?Next year I'm bring...
Notable speakers at THE SHOW June 2011
I liked the Marten speakers; very musical, with a gorgeous mid-range. The highly polished wood cabinets are beautiful too.The Sasha speakers paired with VTL amps were a favorite also.
XRCD Technology
The detail is great, but also the pacing and entire performance is very dynamic-first rate. I would describe it as scintillating. As far as other versions, they seem to be less involving, less dynamic (older recording technology?) and in some case...
XRCD Technology
The XRCD of Gustav Holts' 'The Planets' with Zubin Mehta directing is by far the best version of this work I have heard, and I own about 5 different versions of this work on CD. In at least this case the XRCD is superior to anything else out there...
Review: Tidal Sunray Speaker
Which Tidal speaker did you hear specifically; was it the Sunray or the Contriva?Just curious also-how did the Kharma speaker compare?
Any smooth jazz fans out there?
I love all kinds of music, and all jazz, including smooth jazz. I love Jonathan Butler, Peter White, and especially Norman Brown. I have seen them all perform yearly for many years. I have to say that they have done some of the best concerts I hav...
Tidal speakers... particulary Tidal Sunray
Which Tidal speakers were in the demo, and what amps were being used?
CES 2010 and THE SHOW
Has anyone previewed the Nola baby grande or Electrocompaniet Nordic tone speakers?
EMM vs. MBL DACs
I compared the Mbl transport against my system-a few observations...First let me mention I like tubes, and the lush fullness of my tube system, which includes the Vac Phi 300 amp, Kharma speakers, and the Mbl 6010D preamp. My previous favorite sing...
dCS Puccini vs EMM labs XSD1
In the Stereophile review of the Puccini this month, in a direct comparison to the Ayre C-5xe with the MP filter, it was said that there was no detectable diffence in sound quality between the two players. Any comments on this? I might consider an...
MBL 6010D vs Halcro DM10 vs Burmester 808 mkV
There was a recent thread on this; search Burmester for details.
Aurios Pro for speakers on carpet
I have Aurios Pros under my Kharma speakers on carpet, and have found it to be a big improvement in dynamics. I placed marble tile on the carpet first, and then the Aurios on the marble. I do not know the dynamics of why i works, but the speakers ...
