Thoughts about the Magico A3, Revel Salon2/ Studio2
Two great speakers.  Trouble is, at this level it really all comes down to personal preference and system synergy, because all speakers are pretty damn good at this price level.  By the way, what upstream electronics are you running and what's you...
NOS DAC Journey - SW1X DAC III STd
Thanks for the replies.  I was hoping to hear from the perspective of at least the Metrum Onyx or preferably the Pavane Level lll.  I wouldn't expect the Octave to be competitive with the SW1X, and it's not one of their models on my radar.  At som...
Review ATC SCM 40 A floorstanders.....finally
Yeah, active ATCs are just a special breed.  Nothing like'em IME.  Congrats!!!  In a perfect world I'd have a pair of JA Pearls and active 40s or 50s I could switch out at will.  Both so awesome yet so special in different ways.  Sigh.
Eggleston Works speakers: Expensive, but are they worth the money??
Had the Fountaine Sigs in my system on demo.  Really great all-around speakers with top notch components and build quality.  Agree they should have more publicity.  My only reservation is they lack just the last nth degree of air and space as comp...
NOS DAC Journey - SW1X DAC III STd
Very interesting and intriguing.  Has anyone compared or have experience both with SW1X versus a comparable Metrum DAC?  Both are high on my radar but no clue how they compare.  Thanks.
Bi-wireing speakers
It can vary depending on how the speaker is designed.  Seems like some manufacturers believe it provides a sonic benefit and design their speakers accordingly, while others just put high and low terminals on there because they feel they have to.  ...
Value of upgrading only 1 set of interconnects?
If the sonic characteristics of the new cable are more to your liking you should get some noticeable improvement with one interconnect and more of the same with two.  I agree to start with the source and work your way down, although it's good to t...
Why do Cyrus get such praise from What HiFi???
I'd keep using the Sony and add a jitter-reduction device between the Sony and DAC.  This basically makes the transport a non issue, so when the Sony eventually dies you can just buy another cheap DVD player and you're good to go.  Here is the one...
Who Here Makes Their Own Power Cables?
Question to @grannyring -- when I go to your link I only see one 12 AWG wire.  Do I need to order three to cover positive, neutral, and ground?  Sorry for the stupid question, but I'm actually thinking of giving this a go.  Also, what's your take ...
What makes for good implementation in a dac?
Well, I know Ric Schultz of Electronic Visionary Systems (EVS) has never been a fan of op amps, and I have to believe he knows what he hears with them in the signal path. But I now might disagree a bit with DAC chips being less important as there ...
Why do some fine solid state amplifiers like Soulution have such low input impedance?
I noticed that at least some SMcAudio-revised McCormack amps have much lower input impedance compared to the stock models. I don’t know what specifically Steve does in the revisions that produces this, but given the results he clearly feels it’s a...
Krell KSA100 vs Threshold 400A vs McCormack DNA 0.5
Very interesting, and congrats on your results.  I applaud your persistence.  As an owner of a "dead" late 80s DNA 0.5 Rev. A amp, it gives me hope.
Marantz service
Marantz (and Denon) are now owned by Sound United, which is, in turn, a subsidiary of DEI Holdings -- a US private equity firm.  While private equity firms can do some good things in corporate America, their primary objective is to cut costs and m...
Opinions on Dacs...
I'd cross the Benchmark off your list as "a little warmer" is not likely in its skill set.  The increasing number of NOS R2R DACs may be to your liking as they retain detail yet can also have a hint of organic warmth.  The Metrum Amethyst includes...
