True audio stories! Do you have any?
If dogs have such good hearing why do they often lie down and sleep right in front of a loud speaker. Not the quietest place in the room!
Long lost songs
Not quite on this theme - but can anyone identify a long lost UNKNOWN song for meIt was a trumpet "song" in the 60's that was NOT Il silenzioI have the  Eddie Calvert version of that but it is not what I am looking for. It starts off the first cou...
Outboard crossover? Why not?
Easy - just the two outputs - high and lowAs in my earlier post - more complicated , how to work a three input high middle and low on my audiovectors?Wires everywhere, I don't have the energy to attack it yet.Has anyone any pictures of a 3 input s...
XLR/TRS to RCA? Adapters or cables?
I have a Linn Kinos processor which just has rca outsI wanted to have balanced into my amps, so bought a box to convert rca to balanced (not a cheap rubbish box mind you) and I was wondering if there is any degradation in the process
esoteric products
I have the Oppo 105d and cannot live with the audio streaming of it, which was one of the main purchase points when I bought it on recommendation, and before I heard it in comparison with other kit. As a result I use it to stream films from my nas...
Single ended vs xlr balanced
Stringreen - if you are correct that the "artificial" balance outputs exist then that is outrageous, playing on consumer ignorance. There should be serious descriptions, like on food, to identify the contents! Name and shame!
Single ended vs xlr balanced
How did you switch interconnects? Strangely enough I am collaborating on a preamp that will give an xlr/rca switching option for analogue (record deck and dsd dac), and a passthrough to facilitate a digital source/streamer in surround sound (7.1 +...
Chord cables Epic and Anthem 2 models
I have used the original Anthem interconnect rca and found it to be surprisingly good for its price. Other cables have come and gone since and I am now using Merlin Scorpion. I have kept the Anthems as part of nostalgia really though as a reserve ...
What's the benefit of balanced tonearm cables?
Or pseudo balanced rca as apparently my arm cables are. I have no idea what anyone is saying! I asked a techie and he said a cartridge can only be left and right so not balanced and the arm guy responded and said my arms are pseudo balanced, so pr...
Single ended vs xlr balanced
Hello Inna, I am often in Kharkov where music tastes are limited to songs with a one two beat. Fascinated by the contrast in views with Dave B, who obviously I agree with. Audiogon forum does not show "signatures" of peoples'kit so I cannot relate...
Single ended vs xlr balanced
And another thing for my simple brain .. if balanced is the favoured "vehicle" for long runs ..... why are probably 98% of all xlr cable adverts for sale a seemingly average of 1 metre long? I wanted 8-10 metres but are they ubiquitous? Not at all...
Single ended vs xlr balanced
Yes that is why I asked for  "ear" comments. I was just wondering WHY maybe I should be wrong by favouring, seriously, balanced! I can hear it, but can I believe it?As a  supplementary question - Can a well designed rca cable compensate for ground...
Single ended vs xlr balanced
Not sure if I see any conclusion ... but if I did would it be that balanced if done properly/right kit must be better than unbalanced if done properly/right kit?
Bryston 7Bst vs 7B3
I am running a 4bsst2 as a centre after a previous 7bsst. The sound is better - slightly cleaner and tighter. The same difference when I moved from 14Bsst2 to 28bsst2 monoblocks (also better at lower volumes). I missed a trick here as I bought the...
Need newbie explanation on grounding components.
As a total non techie, is this mainly an issue with older amps or kit? I say this as I have the "play around with different equipment itch" and I have had the humming issue only twice. The first was putting in an OLD Bryston 4B amp. Eliminated by c...
